can ubuntu only runs on linux...
i heard some live cd which can run on windows too...
i dn't have any idea but i just gnna formatt my pc like to give it a shot...

ubuntu = one of the linuxes.
but it can run under windows with a virtual machine e.g. VmWare, or linux as host and windows as guest OS. but yiou should have installed enough RAM min. 1Gb.

but i m still lking the idea to shift to linux OS.. wel i m not afraid to change to linux i always like to learn more...
i have 256mb n intel p4..
no idea abt mhz coz my pc has been crashed for more than 2 months ...

i use 3 laptop each with linux:

1. laptop 1.2ghz P3 512Mb ram 20gb hdd and has suse 10.0 (ok)
2. laptop 600Mhz 192Mb ram 20Gb hdd and has slackware 10 (slow)
3. laptop 2Ghz P4 512Mb ram 30Gb hdd and has ubuntu 7.04 (quite fast)

the 2Ghz laptop with ubuntu is the fastest one i have.. so your hardware is quite good enough to run ubuntu maybe install some more ram maybe 512Mb or 1gb...
ubuntu is very easy to use.. easier than windows Vista or XP.

also i had windows before but i changed to linux for nearly 3 years ago... ok i still have windows XP on a laptop but i use it quite hardly.

i m have this backup sort of compaq presario (kinda ok)..

but i guess u cleared everything... now i just need ubuntu installation cd lol..
abt that ram i have 1 more 256mb on my other p which i guess is broken down from ages...
time to break it some more

lol.. if you want to buy a new laptop then buy a dell with ubuntu 7.04 installed... otherwise you have to look which new laptop will work properly with ubuntu...

my last 3 laptops i got them for free from friends.. lol.. they wanted faster ones...

i use ubuntu with beryl on a p4 3,0 gh ,1g ram,128 video memory [nvidia gforce fx5200] here is the link to download the instalation cd http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download . by the way i use ubuntu 7.04
-suported to 2008! its not hurd to instal! after you put the instalation cd on cd-dvd rom you just have to make bios setings to boot from cd and the cd will start! chose option number 1[start or install ubuntu] wait for the live cd to start and duble clik on install icon! folow the steps that he gives you and restart the computer! if you want to install beryl also[cube, fire and everithing else] you have to install the video card! here is the link to install the video card http://onlyubuntu.blogspot.com/2007/...st-nvidia.html ! i dont know about the other video cards [ati radeon etc]! just give a search and you will find everithing that you are loking for!
