Using my new Moto A1000 in the U.S. and I love it but...

Bought it unlocked from a chap in the UK and it's working great.

Got the GPRS/WAP working over T-Mobile here in the U.S. no
problem. Email set up with Gmail, no problems.

I've already hacked iSync on my iBook to allow syncing my contacts/calendar from Tiger OS X 10.4 to the A1000 with no problems.

Have some slight issues with it.

- aGPS - Can't seem to get it working with nhGPS software. Never seems to find my location. Maybe it's something only for the EU and Asia?...

- Can't load another web browser. Currently it's got Opera installed, but doesn't seem to access the web. Complains about some kind of Hutch plugin or something. When I try to open another URL, like Apple.com, I get a 'Cannot connect to proxy www.apple.com' message.

So I downloaded the MIDlet Jbrowser and can load Google ok but would like a full browser to use since it can't really load anything else of interest. Just wanted to prove to myself that I could access .html pages.

- Voice mail button seems set to a Three SMS number. Not a real problem since I just programed my VM number to another button.

- Home page. Would love to change it from whatever it's at now (something in italian) to English. I'm guessing this comes with the browser.

My questions:

- Is there a generic firmware I can load on the A1000 (with another web browser) that will reset everything and maybe allow me with some customer tools to modify the systems with, LIKE A DECENT FILE BROWSER?

- Is there a way to remove the Three customization (might be by flashing the unit) on the Home page etc....

- Is there a way to hack the voice mail # to point to my VM?


Love everything else, and really don't mind the home page, but not having a good web browser stinks.

Can anyone help? If I can't get them fixed I'll sell it and get an E680.

Ok - found where to change the default VM, worked.

Checked a couple of other things, rebooted...

not good.

so now it looks like I get to take a chance and flash new firmware onto the phone.

I was running 51.14.15 and it was recommend I flash to 51.92.08.

Here goes nothing....

Whew - It's all better.

Flashed to a new generic firmware away from the italian version that was on my phone.

Everything is up and running.

Now, if I can figure out the aGPS, and how to change the snacks.ini so I can do something with the home screen....

i have GPS working ok on my a1000 using nhGPS (eval/trial version). I'm in Seattle WA area with tmobile service.

lucky for you, on my country there's no services that support GPS yet... even now STILL using 2,5G...

aGPS works without gprs connection so, it's stange that u can't use it... if u want i can help u

i know but i'm not to happy and find it important for me...infact i rather got WIFI on my A1k (like M1000) better than A-GPS...

aGPS works a little like regular GPS, but there's a big difference.

In aGPS, the phone receives satellite position information from cell towers, and matches it to the satellite ID transmission received directly from satellite. Well, it can receive satellite location info directly too, but the antenna is small, and the satellites transmit their own location at 50 bps, which the phone usually can't pick up.

So in order for aGPS to work good, your aGPS enabled phone should receive epherion information from the cell towers. Most of US, and many european cellular services support that.. but not all.
