I only can tell from the V8 as I do not have a Z6, but both phones have a very similar structure.
I found that most if not all V8 firmware support IM, but it is hardly found as a menu in most of them. This is due to the fact that the menu for IM simply is not included in the menu structure, but it is quite easy to do so.
1.) you need to "unsquash" the CG52
2.) open the file SysRegistry with Wordpad, you find that file in the folder "preloadedapps".
3.) search for the IM menu and copy the App ID number on top of that IM entry.
4.) open SysMenuTree in Wordpad, same folder
5.) copy the IM AppID at the end of the first line called "Item = ..." seperating it from the previous last entry with a semicolon ";" (no spaces)
6.) save the new SysMenuTree file and create a new CG52.smg
Flash that and you should now have a new Main Menu icon called IM.
Works on the V8 and I am quite sure it will work on the Z6 as well.
