Is there a step by step process described out there of how to back up my phone before flashing it? Where can I read about the difference of flashing and reflashing?

Thanks Wizard for the reply! For a follow up:

1. What are the advantages for me to do this? My V8 is straight from T-Mobile

2. My V8 is locked to T-Mobile - I'm waiting for them to send me an unlock code. If I flash now then will I still be able to unlock it with the code T-Mobile provides?

3. Are there applications for this phone where I could access root folders (a: for example) to mod like I could with my V3? P2kCommander and P2kTools don't seem to work. I just want to remove the T-Mobile stuff.

So... There's no disadvantage, I believe, benefits only - new FW is always better than the older one, there's no doubt. If you use any "monster pack" all T-Mobile stuff (and entirely everything including address book, data, music etc.) will be overwritten. So - there will be no need to "unlock" the phone. Currently there's no application similar to the ones for older Motorola phones - V8 uses the new JAVA-Linux platform, that's why.

How to backup your phone? Just try using the Motorola Phone Tools, backup your address book and all the things you need. But only if you use the monster pack. The reflash includes FW ONLY - it means it won't change address book, your files, T-Mobile customisation, simply nothing but the FW. That's the entire difference. Actually the thing is thas as far as I know there's no monster pack for 2GB V8 (well... there is THIS ONE but customised).
