    Default LinuxDevices notes RAZR2 V8 and MotoMAGX

    http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS8917567693.html

    Motorola announced today that the RAZR2 V8 is based on a new Linux-based software stack dubbed "MotoMAGX," and that it plans to aggressively market third-party development tools around the new stack.

    The tools comprise a MotoDEV Studio IDE (integrated development environment) based on Eclipse and DSDP (device software development project) software. The IDE is said to support three different application development environments, including:

    * Java ME (micro edition)
    * WebUI (featuring "web technology to enable widgets and Web 2.0 experiences," Motorola said)
    * Native MotoMAGX Linux applications
    Hm, native apps. It's about time. Pity V8 doesn't have MicroSD...

    Alpha, do you think the programs for the E2 will work with the V8?

    How about we start testing some of these applications out.. Lets start simple and install some dictionaries etc on it.

    I am actually considering to go to the motodev conference to learn more about the MotoMAGX platform. Anyone else going?

    Well to be honest we have no confirmation that its even similar to the E2. Bare in mind that the E2 uses the juix system... They phones use a newly updated LJ platform. So in theory its different. I would hold on tight until one of us here see whats we can do with it..

    Because I have seen some screenshots and E2 and Z6 have very similar UI....

    The E2 and V8/Z6 platforms are two independant and different platforms. The E2 is just a not touch screen version of the A780 build of EZX known as JUIX while the V8and Z6 are LJ bulid 6.1 or 6.3 I cant seem to remember. The E2 uses cramfs compression while the V8 uses squashfs. The CGs also differ. The only thing similar between the E2 and Z6/V8 is the Chameleon UI

    Default eclipse devel, eclipse runs on linux, linux devel for v8?

    If anyone tries the new MotoMAGX, I'm curious if the added plugins are
    written in java or windows binaries. Any hope of actually developing for a linux phone with *gasp* linux.

    Seems kind of strange to push the benefits of linux as a developer friendly platform and require developers to use windows.
