I have a V3xx, just bought it last week, great phone for my needs, and very fast. I think it is what you would call 'Cingular branded'.
One thing it won't do that I really would like is to give a 3rd party Java application access to the camera so that application can do what it's supposed to do ... capture an image. Details follow, for any who might be interested or, be still my heart, have an idea how to solve this access problem.
The application is qode(r), which for anyone who might want to simulate this problem can be found at qode.com, or via your cellphone browser at get.qode.com. The V3xx is not on the compatible handsets list as being a phone that the qode Reader will work on, and at the moment that is the problem. However, the website did allow to me to download and install the version of qode which is compatible with V3x, and the qode(r) Window part of the program works fine on the V3xx, i.e., I can type in the numbers below a barcode on a product and many times be taken to a website with relevant information about that product.
Anyway, when attempting to use the qode Reader component, it starts off fine, the camera fires up and I can see the camera's view on the screen, but when it is time to "click" on an image, the following message appears on the screen: "Camera access denied. Please allow qode to use the camera", or something to that effect.
I have read that Cingular is funny about allowing 3rd party Java apps do their thing, but as I said, part of the app works fine.
The qode people say: "This inability to access the camera application is due to restrictions with the operating environments already installed on the handset through the manufacturer."
That would be Motorola.
I have spoken with Motorola tech support and at first blush they didn't have a ready fix. I knew it probably wouldn't be as simple as changing a setting on the phone, but one can hope, eh? They said my issue will be forwarded to engineering, and in fact the tech support guy I was talking to went online to check out the qode app and was very interested in it.
So, that's all I know. Anyone here have a great, simple, non-phone-bricking method of allowing this Java app to use the camera and let the camera capture an image to be used by the app?
Thanks!
