    So....the latest .sbf release of Qtopia can only play music for 1hr and then it dies?? I am hoping to turn my ming into a music/media player, since it accept an 8 gig SDHC card. If it only plays for 1hr and that it, might have to wait a little longer before I flash. I've read it some where that flashing to Qtopia is slightly dangerous(damaging the chip).

    Also, is it possible to turn off the antenna like the standard Motovista os??

    Sure you can share your experience, bad or good, its not a problem.

    The problem is:

    Here you suggest that the developers should stop working, and suggest that working on qtopia is a waste of knowledge.

    This is simply stupid. Its much harder and much more expensive than working on qtopia. You can work (and pay) for windows mobile yourself if you really want to.

    This is a plain lie, its useful and people are using it.

    AFAIK gsm software does not run on userspace, it doesnt even run on the same core as linux.

    If you mean uploading the firmware to the gsm core or talking to it with some weird binary protocol, from userspace, then i agree with you. But be sure that its much, much easier than real gsm

    Also, gen3 code is much better and cleaner than gen1/gen2 code, i dont see whats your point in "shitcode".

    @fsjon:

    So you read everything!
    But i guess you are refering to a supposition i made , and it's quite WRONG when i first heard of qtopa fw , i'll edit this post, thanks for pointing this prob..
    In fact i wasn't aware, but jffs2 (flash filesystem) does software "wear leveling" so there is relatively no probs, as long as you don't use a swap on it, or so...that will reduce too quickly the flash lifetime.

    For the battery: my original BT50 is quite old and keep the phone awake on qtopia for around 3 days... (with ~5 mins of calls, and ~30mins of usbnet ssh-ing)

    @Sabrod
    Haha, yea...but then again, I've been here for quite a while and read a lot of stuff that is on this site. I believe you and I had a discussion about qtopia a long time ago (when your avatar had a cat in it) and you pointed out about how jffs2 is damaging to the lifetime of the chip.

    Okay, so it does not actually damage the chip ONLY if do not swap files. I guess it is relatively safe for qtopia as appose to whiteming fw, since I have no idea how qtopia internal working is compared to whiteming. I like the fact that it reads a 8gig SDHC card, with the possibility of even bigger cards. Hence I'm thinking of using it as my mp3 player.

    Thanks shanta, I guess 3hrs is not bad, and I assume after 3hrs there is still juice left for other stuff before it needed a charge right?? Sorry I'm asking so much, but since I'll be using the ming as a media player ONLY(think of it as ipod touch, but BETTER), I'll need more than 3hrs of playback. Hence why I ask if the antenna can be switched off, so I can maximize the battery life.

    So bottom line is, if I am already on qtopia and flash to a newer build later on, it will NOT damage the chip. Am I correct sabrod??

    Fsjon... Probably , but i can't find the post... I hope it's already edited!

    It's actually don't care of the flash chip! On jffs2, it's safe.... it's the filesystem for /ezxlocal and all sms , setiings, and contacts database, the is a lot of writes in it, and i never saw a damaged flash chip...
    And for a media player setup...
    Also, you never write on the kernel partition, and so you will , later, in case the chip is damaged, you'll be able to setup a dual boot system later.

    IMHO: If qtopia is more "intelligent", has a browser ... Then it's a revolutionary fw...
    If whiteming is the same, it's another closed source based monterpack...

    As for each flashing it reduces the numbers of writes your flash chip have by 1 !! ( you should have millions)

    there is git branch with qt4.5 and webkit-based browser. but its still in development

    >AFAIK gsm software does not run on userspace, it doesnt even run on the same core as linux.

    wrong! look at daemon "modem_sercives". as yakk told me, it`s gsm layer 3 implementation.
    sim card reader is also connected to AP and drived by userspace daemon.

    i launched qtopia on my v8 last weekend, but there it`s really useless, because of gsm.

    >Also, gen3 code is much better and cleaner than gen1/gen2 code, i dont see whats your point in "shitcode".

    usb mode switching via ioctl on some file in /proc is really shitcode.
    own interfaces for rtc, battery and even keypad is shitcode.
