hey! skin makers please help me

can you tell me i have this icon and i have to put it as a GNB icon and there is a background, how should i pit it on the background as icon has a white background, when i put it on the image it comes with the white background and it looks very bad.

and can any one tell me how can i make am icon background transparent, (icons which have shadows).

plz reply, i have finished with all other icons for my skin but i have no idea how to do GNB icons

You do not want a background? The GNB unfortunately will always HAVE a background, thats what Iv been given to understand.
For a shadow, it depends on the program you use. I use photoshop, and it has a "Drop Shadow" option for an icon in Blending properties

Or you create a background on which you then place your icon. Say like a purple or black background, and then you paste your icon over it

I could explain how GNB icons work but it would take to long,but each of the four icons should be about 67x48 if i remeber correct lol...working with grafix all day leaves a lot of numbers in my head. 67x48 should be correct make the whole top bar then break it down.
