    Hi Friends,

    1) Root Motorola Milestone on Android 2.1 to 2.3.4

    2) How to Use open Recovery

    3) How to Install 2.3.3 (ginger Bread) In ur Phone

    -------------------------------------------------------------

    NOTE:-

    * SuperOneClick root that we have previously featured for several
Android devices in our rooting guide now supports Motorola Milestone
running Android 2.2.1 FroYo which isn’t supported by our previously featured Universal Androot.
If you own a Motorola Milestone running Android 2.2.1 FroYo and have yet to root it, read on for detailed instructions.

    * While Universal Androot is still amongst the easiest ways to root a lot of
Android phones including Motorola Milestone, it will not work if your Milestone is running Android 2.2.1
FroYo as it supports Android versions only upto 2.2 FroYo. Fortunately, SuperOneClick does support rooting Motorola Milestone running 2.2.1 FroYo
and that’s what we will be using in this guide.

    * 1st you Root ur Motorola Milestone 2.1 with SUPERONECLICK

    1) If you don’t already have the Motorola Windows drivers installed, download them from the link given below and install them on your computer.

    2) Download SuperOneClick from the link given below and unzip it to your computer.

    3) Enable USB debugging on your phone from Menu > Settings > Applications > Development and connect it to your computer via USB.

    4) When prompted to set the USB mode, select ‘Portal & Tools’ which is also called ‘PC Mode’. Make sure NOT to mount the USB card.

    5) Launch SuperOneClick from your computer and click ‘Root’. Wait till the processes finishes and you’re done! It’s that easy.

    * Download motorola windows Drivers from here

Download SuperOneClick 1.5.5 For ( root ur phone)

Android 2.3.4 - lots of fixes (e.g. the RTSP stream playback - http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13715 and many others)
    - qwertz/qwerty/azerty keyboard can be selected in Settings>CyanogenMod settings>Input>Keyboard layout (no need to change the layout in OR after every update any more for those who don't have euro-qwerty phone)
    - backlight animations enabled
    - option to display AM/PM clock in status bar
    - DSP Manager: equalizer presets
    - fail safe: play the default ringtone if the customized one is not available
    - ADW catalogs navigation via swipe added
    - other fixes
    notes:
    1. the gtalk voice/video chat needs updated google apps package, which has not been released by CM team yet (for the time being I'm using gapps-gb-20110503-signed.zip by the_big_o: http://www.mediafire.com/?pq6ji8c0pl9kcq9 )
    2. subversion number (e.g. the last 0.0 is no longer used as no new official kernel updates from Motorola are expected
    0.08-11.04.24 7.0.1 (25/04/2011)
    http://https://github.com/nadlabak/android/downloads
    - fix: google maps freeze on launch after repeated gmaps launches (and system reboot after that in the end, sooner or later), lock happened at the time of reading of cached maps from sdcard, fixed by:
    1. revert to not moving dalvik-cache to sd-ext (it causes also other performance issues, so I'd disable it anyway), only app and app-private are moved now
    2. read_ahead_kb for sdcard set to 32 (yes, I don't care about sdcard speed benchmark results, I prefer stability)
    - fix: webkit text wrapping (e.g. gmail text displayed too narrow)
    - fix: displayed operator name (for some European networks), forced plmn display for spdi networks
other fixes and features (status bar additions etc.)
    0.08-11.04.18b 7.0.0
    https://github.com/nadlabak/android/downloads
    -- mkdir fix! http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#change,4720
workaround to avoid frequent Gallery3D resets (seg fault in SGX library - usually coming after orientation change)
    - sys.keep_app_1 and sys.keep_app_2 properties can be defined (as process names) in build.prop, to allow user to specify up to two apps to be always kept in memory (use with caution, RAM is limited!)
    - possible workaround for issue 498 (black screen) - http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod.../detail?id=498
    - slight low memory killer parameters adjustment
    - sync setting fix, TextView slow scroll fix, arabic keyboard and dictionary in LatinIME
    - etc.
    0.08-11.04.10 RC4.1 [11/april/2011]
    https://github.com/nadlabak/android/...download_90696
fix: kernel modules sometimes installed too late (sd-ext not mounted, overclock not applied)
possible fix: locationproxy - ConnectionPending exception (hard to reproduce - needs confirmation)
update: overclock and cpufreq_stats modules - stats freq table automatically updated
kernel module nls_utf8 added and preloaded so that iocharset=utf8 option can be used for cifs mount
fix: 2 different possible NPEs in Settings.apk
VM heap size selection list expanded
10overclock: changed default frequency table (250/400/600/800/1000)
upstream: RTL lang fixes and other updates and fixes
    [B]0.08-11.04.05 [6/april/2011] [B]
    https://github.com/nadlabak/android/...download_89556
kernel modules: ( detail for some problm fixes )
ext4 (finally proper, journalling works, preloaded) - supports also ext2 and ext3 partitions
    ext3, ext2 - included, not preloaded
    tun (for OpenVPN, preloaded)
cifs (not preloaded, but depends on slow-work that is preloaded), CifsManager app from market can insmod cifs.ko when needed (great for playback of avi files located on windows share via wlan
nfs (not preloaded, depends on included but not preloaded auth_rpcgss, rpcsec_gss_krb5, sunrpc, lockd)
xt_multiport (to fix some iptables issues, preloaded)
overclock (+symsearch) reworked by Skrilax_CZ (preloaded)
    - 5 frequency slots enabled
    - greatly simplified setting of custom frequency/vsel pairs
    see /system/etc/init.d/10overclock

    - 07app2ext script included in /system/etc/init.d - works via bind mount but is compatible with symlink versions. (warning - do not put more than one app2ext script in init.d as it could result in loss of apps)
    - auto boot OpenRecovery (when rebooting to recovery) script added
    - SD card reading performance improved (read_ahead_kb set to 204

    - Usb.apk is now built from source, thanks to Skrilax_CZ, very nice decompilation!
    - ADWLauncher drawer scrolling (and zoom animation) optimized to be smoother even when "allow purging of assets" memory performance option is enabled
    - finally implemented "no action on plug" (it's under CyanogenMod settings>Display)
    - option to disable the dock observer fixed
    - fixed gingerbread key event repeating bug affecting camera when using hardware buttons

    - upstream: several new RTL fixes and features, 1 important EGL fix, 3 bluetooth fixes (cherry picked), various other fixes

    Dear Amit Patil,
I am Sasidharan from Kerala.I have saved you as a friend in my contact list.Being impressed by your teachings I have made it a point to root my officially updated Milestone 2.2.1 and install 2.3.4.But being a totally layman I am not at all conversant with your technical languages and there are no experts in my place here to get it done.So I am seeking your help for specific assistance for achieving this goal myself. Please don't get offended if you find some of my questions childish/harassing.It is due to my ignorance. Please bear with me and be kind enough to help me.I am putting down the points which require your clarification and guidance.
    ROOTING
    --------------
Once rooted my phone can it be unrooted later on?If yes, what are the steps for it?If rooted, will the Contact list,GPRS/3G settings etc in the phone will be lost?
I have done the following steps in the 1st phase of rooting.
1.Downloaded Motohelper_2.0.40_D...exe to my Windows XP Laptop.
2.Downloaded Super One click v1.5.5-S...zip along with iLvid set upv1.exe to my lap. What is the need of iLvid set up?How the Superoneclick can be unzipped?
Now getting your instructions further I shall perform the rooting action.

    AFTER ROOT
    --------------------
    1.Downloaded OpenRecovery_v1-46....rar to the Lap.Whether this has to be unzipped?If yes,how?
    2.Downloaded Update.cm-7.1.0 RC 6-11.05.26 Milestone_signed.zip to the Lap.
[To download 0.08-11.04.7.0.1(25/4/11) the website is not available in the computer.Hence not downloaded. As there came a fix,the following are also not downloaded.
    0.08-11.04.18b 7.0.0
    0.08-11.04.10 RC 4.1(11/4/11)
    [B]0.08-11.04.05[6/4/11][B]
Since I have already downloaded the latest update cm-7.1.0 RC 6-11.05.26 whether the above mentioned in your bracket[..] are needed? Please advise.if they all are required, from where I can get 0.08-11.04.24.7.0.1(25/4/11) also?
3.Also I couldnot download Latest version of Google Apps from www.mediafire.com as I can't see the download links and the list of required apps which I don,t know.So please advise in this regard.Or else, whether these can be downloaded and installed from Market after the installation of cm update?
    PRE-FLASH SET UP
    ------------------------------
1.How to do the copying of "OpenRecovery" and "Update.zip" to SD Card?
2.How to copy the Cust ROM(is it the Update.zip itself?) in SD Card/Open Recovery/Update) ?
3.Also what is meant by "Unzip Disable recovery check by OTA and copy contents to SD Card/Open Recovery/Scripts" ?Please explain this and narrate specifically.
    FLASH
    ----------
Step 4: Please explain specifically how to perform 'Wipe Data/Factory Reset' & 'Wipe Cache Partition' .
Step5: What is meant by 'apply SD Card:Update.zip' ?
Step7; After Step6 whether the phone will automatically open the Menu? And is the Wipe similar to Step4?
Steps9&10oes the applying action mean scrolling to the item using Dpad and clicking the gold button?
Step11: How can I go to Main Menu and Reboot System?

Lastly one more thing. What is your opinion about Cronos Ginger 1.2 with 900MHz and 56 Vsel?Does it have better performance and battery life than CM 7.1?If yes, will you please furnish the procedure of installation of this ROM?

I think this took a pretty long note to bore you.But please bear with me and please be kind enough to help me.
Waiting for your guidance with thanks,
    Sasidharan.
