My Best phone EVER.. the new EM30

A longtime Motorla Fan I had bought an E6 back in December (and lurked here reading posts and using many great firmwares!) after my wife dropped my Nokia Flip into some water. I searched for music phones and the E6 being linux-based was a big plus so I bought the E6 lightly used off ebay at the time. The touchscreen stopped responding completely after 10 months in Oct and a replacement digitizer failed to fix it (it was also two months out of warranty from Moto). So to the recycle center it went and I went searching for a replacement.

I have looked at a Nokia 5310 after reading good reviews as well as LG's, SE's etc but I just have a fondness for American Mototorola considering they are based in my former hometown. I read about the E8 and saw that Moto just released an updated E8 without the touch scroll-wheel that was the main complaint about the E8.

$197 later for a new unlocked and after having it for a whole 4 days now it is my best phone EVER!

The moto sound quality bests my two ipods (even my E6 was better imo). I liked my E6 but having big hands I was basically having to use the stylus for everything and texting was a major drawback. The new E8/EM30 is SO much better. The built-in media player even reads my mp4/m4a tags where RealPlayer on E6 didn't.

I plan to have this phone for a long time and will take extra care of it. I am so sick of the expendability of cell-phones so hopefully it doesn't go bad on me in a year-half as I can't keep buying phones.

I haven't set my internet settings yet so I will run those sites and post results when I get my phone working with ATT.

In meantime, if this helps any, the included browsers "about" page says Symphony Browser v1.1.0, 2007.

the screen is NOT small.... 240*320.... just like an e2, z6, u9, v8/9...


but oriented in another way... i have an e8.... and i have the same opinion...

Screen is fine size for what this phone does.. calls, text and music. I imagine it would be too small if this was a smartphone or something, but it is not.

Still love it.

Ok, one small complaint if I could find one is I personally think the volume is little too low. I have to set it to max volume to actually hear it in semi-noisy environments. My E6, Max volume would be way too loud in same earbuds. Could be product of the many fine independant firmwares for E6 that fixed it for that platform? So I am counting on this little issue being resolved eventually.

Still very detailed and full sound for a phone. Richer than my ipod for sure.

Hey budman I've pretty much taken the same path you have and upgraded from the E6 to the EM30. Im pretty happy with the phone considering the touchscreen on my E6 phone was giving me trouble at the end of one year. the only crib have is the covers on the earphone and data ports seem pretty flimsy. Anyone else feel the same?

guys, any additions for this phone? E8 has mpkg in the bestwebs firmware? What's the path for the EM30? is the limited internal storage a hassle, or is it like the Ming/E6 where it isn't a problem as everything rests on the memory card?
EM30 is alot cheaper here compared to the E8. Would the EM30 be a good choice or E8 better (E8 has 'more' development & all..).

Please give me your feedback. I would like native apps, and even though there may not be any for motomagx, the E8 is sporting this. Just concerned about the humbly priced EM30.

Please advise me.

@The EM30 as for ME is not a VERY impressive phone.

I played around with it in the hardware testing room in my office and it failed in 3 out of 10 or so tests.

Although what is killer about the phone is its style.

The phone has GREAT CHARISMA /LOOKS.

Also it beats the E6 in terms of texting and navigation (personally I like the red-black outline).
