Is the motorola droid an iphone killer

The Droid was the first in the high end android device class running android 2.0. When the Droid got updated to android 2.1 it put it on the same playing field as the iphone 3gs and iphones that are below the 3gs. It was on the same playing field because, feature wise, it did all that the iphone did such as apps and pinch to zoom etc.
