wads the differnt between urs and yantz's
good news everyone
like yantz i tried to play around with the icon resource file and wrote a small c program under linux.
what are the advantages?
- you can extract icons from every iconres.ezx file that is
suitable for the e680 independent of the icon count
- you will get icons that have meaningfull names like the one
that are included in the original iconres.ezx file
- you can put icons back to the file that are larger in size
than the originals
what are the disadvantages?
- may be you will never run it on windows because it is
written on linux
- the process to include the new iconres.ezx file in a theme is
not covert with this program at the moment
therefore i have written a script called motothemecreator
For download see the following link:

so, happy testing...

wads the differnt between urs and yantz's
since version 3 is out of yantz MotoezxSE there is no difference. But the MotoezxSE can include the iconres.ezx file directly into the theme file.
For this i wrote a script called motothemecreator to do this.
I coded it because yantz program in version 2 was not able to create new icon resource files with only selected icons in it. But now it can.
His perl program can be used from windows and linux.
If someone is interested in creating a gui for selecting icons for our phone it may help that there is code written in perl and c.
You are free in using the program from yantz or mine
buhzi, do you think an online version would be helpful? i suck at c/c++, but is pretty good with perl/cgi and html. i think i can come out with online version soon if it would prove useful![]()
i would also be intrested in having a gui for doing all the stuff that can be done with the windows theme editor and your or mine program.
but i don't have the time to spend on creating a gui. At the moment the ability to exchange icons that provids our small programs is good enoght. and i can handle it.
If i would create one i would do it for linux (qt/kde). There is a possibility to port qt-programs to windows. But your approach doing it with perl and maybe a html gui (i have seen a step in this direction on your homepage ) is something windows/linux and mac user could live with.
But the problem would be to get people that make a stylish icon theme for the phone. I have tried it but with moderate success. I took some icons from kde and wanted to exchanged only the 4 icons on top but there are about 20 icons for that you have to modify ;( And all the icons should fit together..
And the next problem is that the phone has this ugly lines around. You only have the ability to change the color. But wouldn't it be nice to get rid of them?
But belonging to your question: yes do it.
May be it reassured someone with a more creative ability to design some icons...
I am trying to come up with some stylish themes... but as u know... design the icons n theme is a tough job. The main problem being the GIF that is used, somehow there will always be some white edges after u convert them n if u use a coloured background they can be quite ugly.... u need to use icon editor to make them transparent pixel by pixel... very tedious.. n u are not talking abt 1 icon... there are so many icons to change.. but there are a lot of ready icons to be used from the we though...its really a lot of work n time to spent to get a solid design out....
i think u dun need to use an icon editor, just use photoshop, use transparent background and save as gif. gif format supports transparency
released motoiconchanger version 0.1.1
This is only a bugfix release, so no new features.
Is this nice software run on WindowsXp ?
no you need linux.Originally Posted by thanh
you should use MotoezxSE v4.0 from yantz. This runs on Windows and linux. You need additional perl for running...
