I got an email from MotoDev today with some interesting info on the new Linux OS for Moto phones called MotoMagX. Post here for your enjoyment.
Take advantage of MOTOMAGX, Motorola's next-generation Mobile Linux platform, with a comprehensive developer guide covering Java implementation on all MOTOMAGX devices. The Java Developer Guide for MOTOMAGX describes the Java Application Environment offered by every Motorola MOTOMAGX handset, going in-depth with MIDlet management, security, supported Java and Motorola APIs and other topics, including updated testing and signing advice for Java ME applications. Sections on developer tools and related technical content round out the complete coverage for Java developers.
The Java Developer Guide for MOTOMAGX includes details on the new fleet of MOTOMAGX handsets -- such as the MOTOROKR Z6, MOTORAZR2 V8, MOTO U9, and the recently announced MOTOROKR E8 -- as well as earlier Linux OS predecessors such as the MOTOMING A1200, MOTOROKR E6 and MOTOROKR E2.
The guide is available from MOTODEV's new MOTOMAGX platform page. MOTODEV MOTOMAGX.

Im sick with motorola, they release firmwares to block mpkg, they make so you can run only one java app at time, im a j2se programer but java for smartphones aint the best choice, if it wasnt for motorolafans i would had sold my ming long ago.
Me+Moto have two possible ways: 1; Motorola finaly hear their costumers and release C# sdk and all the libs 2; mkezx/openmoko/openezx gets mature and i can replace this piece of proprietary pseudo linux that comes with motolinux.

It's all about content control, Motorola allows the carriers to call the shots as to what a phone can and cannot do. The Ming is capable of alot more than just being a sexy phone for the evening out on the town. Because Motorola supports Java, Sun Microsystems controls the can and cannot do's so they get paid for the use of Java and the app developers get their cash. Until Motorola tells all the Carriers and Sun Microsystems to kiss it's ass, I wouldn't expect any true opensource OS platform on Moto phones.
The only way to be massive is to public the source code, so there will be many applications for the phones. Linux is not the best choice nowadays, so if motorola wants to be the top seller (nowadays is Nokia) they need to support native applications instead of Java which is horrible. I hate Java applications.
