Default USBNET in Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy)

    Hello,

some time ago, I switched to Gutsy (amd64). The problem I have now, is that I can't get telnet access on any of my devices, as usbnet doesn't work.

Anybody else experiencing this problem? Ideas to solve it?

yup me too... ubuntu gutsy i386 only.

I had to use usbppp instead.(from leoppp package)
Its practically the same in terms of difficulty.
just issue "sudo pppd /dev/ttyACM0 noauth local" on your terminal after pluggin in the usb cable in modem mode.
then click on USBPPP icon in ur phone's menu.

Voila instant Point to Point. Hope i wasnt sounding too condescending.
i'm new to the a780 tinkering. Still finding my way around Ubuntu.

    cheers boyo.

Well, I could telnet with 7.04 as well.
The problem with Gutsy is, that "zaurus" module is no more in default kernel, so we have to (if anybody knows another way, please post it!) build a new kernel with "zaurus" enabled.

Will try to work on this later..

maybe modprobe or insmod is enough, i don't have a 7.10 here.

The problem is, that the "modprobe zaurus" just gives you that: "FATAL: Module zaurus not found."

So you have to build a new kernel or something like that.

I had the same issue with gutsy long back, and I remember just compiling the module and using insmod. You won't need to re-build the kernel.

modprobe won't work as zaurus is not included in gutsy.

maybe complain to ubuntu(-forum) that the gusty kernel is no more zaurus enabled.
