Thread: LINUX for beginners

  1. #1

    Default LINUX for beginners

    okay... sorry for the noobness

first.. pardon me for I'm hijacking the thread ..
second.. pardon me again for the question I am asking..

I had been reading a lot about Linux and did try installing fedora core on my desktop too (< 2 yrs back ) but i could never get used to using Linux .. may be I didn't have my basics of Linux right... but now that i have joined this community.. I'm getting tempted to try Linux again..

So a can you guys help me choosing the right flavor.. so that it has a lasting impact .. and any pointers for a beginner ...

    you can't hijack a thread

for a first start any on the UBUNTUs are a good choice.
you can get a Live-CD to have a first look if you like the system.
the different in XUBUNTU, KUBUNTU and UBUNTU is mostly the window manager.
    adsiway and digitalD like this.

yeah, ubuntu and its variants are a good choice for beginners... just tri it and you will like it -its easier than windows XP(and vista) after a while.

    Thanks Swify... U ROCK !!

hmmm.. for the recommended Ubuntu.. i had already applied for a promo CD and i have got 3 packs (all similar) with one live CD and one install CD..

I will try to use the live CD and check if i can start off well.. one of the issues with Linux I had earlier was a non supported PCI TV tuner card .. I couldn't get the drivers for it.. and for some reason the on board sound drivers had some issues too ...

lets see what happens this time..

thanks for the help tho... more suggestions and opinions are welcome..
