This utility will let you disable and enable the iPhone backup process in iTunes.
It is provided free of charge, and comes with no guarantee or warranty of any kind.
There is a backup and restore feature that will keep a backup of any files that are modified.

Tested with Windows XP and VISTA. Compatible with iTunes 8.0 and firmware 2.1.

With the newer 2.1 firmware and iTunes 8, the Long backup process has been reduced to about a 30 second backup process, this was one of the major advantages of the firmware upgrade.
