Default Apple must be doing something right :)

Apple hits 3 million iPhone's sold in its debut month - Aug. 11, 2008

Analyst: 3 million iPhones sold in first month
Momentum isn't showing any signs of a dip; sales blow past expectations.

One month after its debut, Apple's new iPhone has hit the 3 million sold mark, according to analyst Michael Cote of the Cote Collaborative.

"They are seeing unprecedented demand," says Cote, adding that there appears to be no signs of a let up yet. Cote, a former T-Mobile executive, has been extremely accurate with wireless predictions in the past.

An Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) spokesperson declined to comment on Cote's projections.

The blistering sales pace of Apple's new gadget defies the otherwise downward trends in consumer spending, employment levels and overall economic health. The 3 million figure is much higher than Wall Street analysts had anticipated. Forecasts called for total quarterly sales of three million to four million.

Not only the sales rates of the iPhone are great.
The App Store is a big success too.

It's been a month since the iTunes App Store went live, and in an interview with the Wall St Journal, Steve Jobs has put the apps downloads figure at over 60 million. With the mix of free and paid apps, that brought Apple around $30 million. That's obviously encouraged Steve: He's enthusiastic that maybe "it will be a $1 billion marketplace at some point in time" adding that he's "never seen anything like this in my career for software."

I know I have spent about $80 at the app store since upgrading, most of it on iTunes gift cards though. Im waiting for Katamari Damacy on the iPhone, then life will be complete.

Is it possible to "aquire" iPhone software from a different source? Just a thought.

I know there are people getting hacked apps from torrent sites, but I personally havent done it... most the apps Ive bought are between .99 and 4.99 I can handle that. Plus they get updated regularly, and I get the updates, so I like that too.

Chefanim: But the unofficial installers (um, Cydia?) have apps that don't have to follow up the Apple's silly rules. These rules (+ losing free service if I violate them) made me buy Rokr E6 and not iPhone.
Basically, I pay for apple's stuff, but they still own it and can do whatever they want. I can't, I must do what they tell me to. There've even been news about Apple is being able to remotely delete any app from iphone. Fair?
