cool idea.. ext. usb-HD on e680
may we should test it out.![]()
I am not too sure whether this is gonna work.. asking if anyone has tried something like this.... Suddenly have this idea while I was looking at some of these 2.5 inch external portable hardisk that comes with a slim enclosure...
At SLS, eg. a 40GB device like this cost ard. S$210, most of the time u usually use this for storing PC data externally or downloading pics from the camera SD cards (when u are on vacation).
If the phone is able to detect this device, it would mean that we can play the mp3, movies ..etc off this external storage..... that would mean that this phone is gonna be another great entertainment device, playing mp3 & movies off this 40 GB or even 80 GB storage...
Did a search on the net on Linux recognition of external storage...

I know this may sound crazy, but can this be achived by connecting the phone to this portable HDD using the USB cable... of course the 40GB HDD is powered by external battery...???
Need some experts to comment on this...

usb-port from e680 is working in client mode, but the usb-port have to be in host-modus, than it would be work. no idea if it is possible without changing the kernel...![]()
I think connecting a hd to the sd card interface would be easier.
Yes, but does it run Linux?
hmm, I dont think so.
when plugging a hd to sd slot you need a converter changing the "protocol" and where do you want to install this? on your selfmade sd card?![]()
But plugging a hd into usb could only be a driver problem and ok ... perhaps the ko criteria a hardware problem that the usb port is not able to be in host-mode.but i remember that i had seen usb cable on ebay with the correct plugs, or was it firewire?
Yeah i know that it has a different protocol, but i still think it'd be easier, especially since there are a lot of devices that use sd, so maybe there has been a projet started like this once already, while for the usb port we'll have to do it all ourselves. Theyre trying to do this too with the psp, read it here: http://www.psp-linux.org/forums/inde...pic=134&st=120

Looks like it may be possible, any kind soul is able to test this out??
As far as I know, the E680 doesn't support USB host mode. This has to be supported by the chip, it's not a matter of software. So unless your HD has host support, it's not going to work.
I don't agree. Please read chip specifications, it's states:Originally Posted by SolarX
