    flash procedure using pst

    requirements:
    pst 7.11 or later
    firmware (.shx)
    usb cable
    e680
code group number 33 and 35 <- optional

    procedure:
install pst 7.11 or later to default location. normally at c:\program files\motorola\pst
after install, apply the patch. there are several files to be patched, so keep on clicking next until all files patched
    restart pc if need to
extract firmware to a folder by itself
extract the cg files to a different folder than the shx. do not rename the cg smg files
put phone to usb modem mode and connect to pc
run multiflashflex.exe in pst installation folder
a series of drivers will be installed. select manually select driver and point to the pst installation folder for the driver the first time. subsequently, you can just select automatically
you should now be able to see motorola phone in the device list
in flash setup, check enable flash and select the firmware shx file
    click start to begin flash
at a point where it says erasing flash...., copy the two cg files to the shx folder. now there will be several files created by pst, and 2 of them will have the same filename as the cg files, just overite them.
the cg smg files must be copied over before erasing flash ends
after 100%, it will verify checksum and will say flash failed, dont worry, just exit
phone will still be in blue screen, dont worry just unplug cable and restart
do a master reset/clear just to be sure

    telneting into phone

2 ways: using usblan or leoppp

i recommend using leoppp as it can do much more than just telnet. but personally i have not tried it on the e680i, so i'll only explain usblan method.

using usblan to telnet into phone:
download and install the belcarra usblan driver. its in the downloads area
download and extract the acmattach.lin into phone
put phone to usb modem mode and connect to pc
open my favourites and tap acmattach.lin
windows will attempt to install driver, select manually and point to the belcarra installation folder, normally at c:\program files\belcarra
after driver install is complete, go to command prompt and telnet into phone:
    telnet 169.254.142.2
enter root for user, no password required

ps. if you used silvio's cg33 during flashing, you could make it automatically change to usblan mode by putting the acmattach.lin into sd and rename it to acmattach.txt

    using mpkg

mpkg was originally written by yan0. all credits go to him
mpkg preloaded in my cg35 was edited to make it only compatible for e680i and make use of leomsg instead of sounds. leomsg was originally written by leopardus2. all credits go to him

mpkg is to ease installation of programs/scripts for the e680/i/a780 without the need of manually editing installedDB.

to install a .pkg package, simply put the .pkg into phone, then tap it. install will take quite some time especially for large pkg. pls wait and dont do anything until:
in original mpkg -> a sound will be played indicating package installed
in edited mpkg -> a popup will show package installed message

    uninstall for edited mpkg:
to uninstall a program, tap the mpkg icon in tools. its the icon similar to windows installer icon.
a series of rem_xxxx files will be created in phone folder, where xxxx are program names
rename rem_xxxx to mpkg.txt if you want to uninstall that program
the rest of the rem_xxxx files should be deleted
tap the mpkg icon again and the program will be uninstalled

    uninstall for original mpkg:
to uninstall a program, create a text file containing the folder name of the program in QTDownLoad with the name mpkg.txt
eg. if you want to uninstall gba, look for its folder name in /diska/.system/QTDownLoad
so mpkg.txt should contain GBA and newline
mpkg.txt should not be written using the phone's notepad or windows notepad.
put mpkg.txt into phone and tap on mpkg icon
some sound will be played indicating uninstall complete.

    using theme uninstaller

    tap theme_uninstaller.lin
new files uninstall_xxxx.lin will be created in phone folder
tap on whichever theme that you want to uninstall
all the uninstall_xxxx.lin will be deleted
a single gouninst_xxxx.lin will be created
tap that final file to complete the uninstallation

    backing up for reflash

this steps will not gives total backup, ie not 100%. but it does give an almost complete one.
this is only for e680i reflash, not for e680 to e680i. but the same method does work, altho the settings file might differ slightly, thus settings are not completely restored

backup everything you have in /diska
    in telnet:
    # cd /diska
    # tar -zcvf /mmc/mmca1/diska.tar.gz .
or using samba, just copy everything in system\diska to a folder in pc

    backup everything in /ezxlocal/download/appwrite
before performing this, ENSURE you change to the first default theme, the red one. <- VERY IMPORTANT!!
    restart phone, then
    in telnet:
    # cd /ezxlocal/download/appwrite
    # tar -zcvf /mmc/mmca1/ezxlocal.tar.gz .
or using samba, just copy everything in system\ezxlocal\download\appwrite to a folder in pc

    backup your contacts/calendars/task using mpt

    restoring after flashing

    restore your diska data
    in telnet:
    # cd /diska
    # tar -zxvf /mmc/mmca1/diska.tar.gz
dont worry abt any warning messages that will come up
or in samba, just copy over from pc

    same goes for /ezxlocal/download/appwrite

for contacts, calendars and task, just resync with mpt.

restart phone and all your settings should be restored

    creating themes for e680i

since currently, there is no real editor available for the e680i, this guide will make use of current available e680 tools.

tools we'll be using in this guide are:
    iconrestool
    motoskn
    any good image editor

extract the original gifs from the e680i's original iconres.ezx file using iconrestool. this will also create some header files and hash table for the new ids which are not supported in motoezxse.
create some cool gifs for icons in a separate folder. if you are totally new in this, then i suggest you read up some threads in e680 skin forum. all gifs should have their own proper names eg. GNB_Home_A.gif etc.
once you got your icons done, copy over the 2 files created by iconrestool earlier, hashtable and headerfile into your icons folder and use iconrestool to build the new iconres.ezx file.
next is creating skn file. included in motoskn package are 3 templates png file for your use. open any one of it in your favourite image editor. immediately save the png as another name.png. this will prevent you accidently overwriting the template png see my post "A780/E680i skn" for the map of the icons in the png. you just need to create a new icon and copy/paste into the png, at the exact same location, over the current icon. once done, save the png.
next is creating the theme configuration file. the structure is similar to e680 except for a few additional/omitted lines. i will not go thru the structure here, but if you are really new and need help, just ask here
next is creating the folder structure. normally/ideally images resides in phone's folder while iconres.ezx and skn files resides in /ezxlocal. but the space in ezxlocal is becoming smaller and smaller and icons got bigger and bigger and they now cannot always reside in ezxlocal. in this case, you have to put them in phone's folder, but connecting usb mass storage will cause the phone to lockup. to avoid this, end users have to switch to default theme before connecting usb mass storage.
    ideal structure:
    /ezxlocal/download/theme/your_theme_name.dhm
    /ezxlocal/download/theme/icons/your_theme_name.dhm/iconres.ezx
    /ezxlocal/download/theme/icons/your_theme_name.dhm/your_theme_name.dhm.skn
    /ezxlocal/download/appwrite/setup/your_theme_name.dhm
    /diska/themes/your_theme_name.dhm/all your images goes here

    alternative structure:
    /ezxlocal/download/theme/your_theme_name.dhm
    /ezxlocal/download/appwrite/setup/your_theme_name.dhm
/diska/themes/your_theme_name.dhm/all your images plus iconres.ezx plus your_theme_name.dhm.skn all goes here

once you got your files in those folders, put motoskn.pl in the root of those folders and run it to finally build the .mtf

    good luck!!

but i feel it still need more deeper info for beginner themers. those already creating themes for e680 shouldnt have problems following this guide, but beginners i'm sure will have a hard time following it. i'll add more steps/links later
