    Default Maximizin E680i for newbies

    MAXIMIZING E680i
(for newbies who are afraid to flash full firmware)

SECTION 1: Maximize E680i without flashing full firmware

Maximizing E680i usually involves flashing. But for newbies, like me, flashing full firmware is quite dangerous since we are afraid mess-up our beloved phone. Worry no more, for this guide will teach us an alternative way to maximize E680i with only flashing some portion of the firmware using Cyph’s flaskit – for me the safest way to flashing our phone.

SECTION 2: Firmware Upgrades and Appz

A maximized E680i should have the following (all these upgrades and appz can be downloaded in motorolafans.com):

    a) Three Search’s CG33 Unicode version 2.0

    1) Unicode

    f) NEO Appz:

    1) Bass Boost

(Note: To activate icon. In any of the categories, click menu, choose “Change Order”, just play around and the click OK)

SECTION 4: Pre-Telnet (PC Appz for easier Telnet)

Below are PC applications/drivers for easier Telnet:

    a) USBLAN

    1) Download USBLAN.rar
    2) Click the installer to install drivers (Note: this version does not work on XP without modification)
    3) Look for the modified .inf file in the usblanpatch folder
    4) Replace the original file on installed location with this patched one

    b) Acmattach.lin

    1) Download Acmattach.lin.rar
    2) Copy Acmattach.lin (preferably on root of SD Card)
    3) Set phone to USB Modem Mode then connect to PC via USB Cable

    7) You will get a new device found prompt on XP (Note: If it don’t show a new device on XP, restart your PC)
Select location for driver and point it to installation directory of USBLAN
    9) Wait… your device is installed. Click finish

    c) Test Telnet

    1) Set phone to USB Modem Mode then connect to PC via USB Cable
    2) On the phone, tap Acmattach.lin. Now you are connected via USBLAN
    3) On the PC, press “Win + R”, and type “cmd” in run dialog
    4) In XP command prompt, type “telnet 169.254.142.2” without quotes and press enter
    5) Type root on telnet login prompt, press enter
    6) You are on root of your phone. Our test is ok, type exit and press enter
    7) Close command prompt and unplug USB cable

    SECTION 5: Flashing CG33 using Cyph’s Flashkit

By this time, I assume that you already know how to Telnet. Below is a step by step procedure in installing CG33.

    a) Download Cyph’s Flashkit. (Note: based on my experience, it is the safest way of flashing e680i without messing our phone)
    b) Download the modified CG33 at http://vllp.sourceforge.net
    c) Set phone to USB Mass Storage Mode then connect to PC via USB Cable
    d) Copy Flashkit folder to the root of SD Card
    e) Copy the modified CG33 to flashkit folder and rename it to CG33.smg
    f) Unplug USB Cable
    g) On the phone, tap rwflash.lin. This will load rwflash.o
    h) Leave the phone alone and wait. When the screen blanks out wait 30secs longer, there's a good chance the phone entered low power mode.
    i) Telnet to the phone (by connecting USB cable clicking acmattach.lin open command prompt telnet 169.254.142.2 login as root)
    j) Type cat /proc/rwflash_status and press enter. If it shows "unlocked", your flash is writable!! If not, unplug phone and go to Step H
    k) Continue command below in sequence
    l) Type cd /mmc/mmca1/flashkit
    m) Type ./start.sh
    n) The script will start killing the phone's apps and mount the miniroot. After which, your telnet connection will be terminated
    o) Telnet back to the phone at port 10000, Type Telnet 169.254.142.2 10000 and login as root. You are now in the miniroot. All phone applications should be killed by now (Except for mmcsdapp, for some reason, it is stuck in an uninterruptible sleep. This means we can't unmount the original root. Well, too bad.)
    p) Type cat /proc/mtd to see what partitions you have. You should be able to flash the "R/W" partitions (Note: you should see the following)

    mtd4: 000e0000 00020000 "R/W Kernel"
    mtd5: 018e0000 00020000 "R/W RootFS"
    mtd6: 00020000 00020000 "R/W Setup"
    mtd7: 00020000 00020000 "R/W Logo"

    q) CD to the directory where we have placed our rootfs (in this case we placed it at /mmc/mmca1/flashkit) and then give following command: flashcp -v CG33.smg /dev/mtd5
    r) Wait until the whole process is finish (Note: don’t worry if flashcp gives an error at end. It does. But your work is done.)
    s) Type sync
    t) Exit Telnet
    u) Pull out battery. Reboot phone.

    SECTION 6: Flashing Three Search’s CG33 Unicode version 2.0

aremcy, looks like somehow two of ur attached files r not there anymore.
if those were useful, attach those again.
also, i'll recommend that u attach these files to ur first post. that will be easy for users to get them.
use "edit" on ur first post and attach files there. just a suggestion.

Its MPKG Appz. all MPKG appz shows "AppName". Try looking for neo-version of these appz. Do't forget to install neo-installer if you still use original firmaware without flashing CG33.

Or reflash using modded CG36 with preloaded MPKG. It will show MPKG apps by its realname.
Development of EZX-SysInfo / SysEdit application is completed! Version 0.1 Beta 2 is out. Check out in 'Bounty Projects' forum.

Ok, I am an utter newbie to this, and having quite a tough time of even doing the basics. I have copied the Loader_e680i_sd.mtf file to my e680i, but I am not entirely certain how I am supposed to actually run it. I went into viewer and found it, but tapping on it tries to open it in picsel viewer. Also, I am unable to find diska on the phone. I believe I am missing how to actually go into a full file viewing mode on the phone...can anyone assist?

    yes, sure.
diska means main directory of file manager on phone. you dont need to go to viewer and then try to open file. u only need to go to files, and then tap this file using ur stylus or finder or whatever.
it will show a verification of a successful operation.
