Thread: Types of memory

  1. #1

    Default Types of memory

When I install a Java app to the phone, I will be asked where I want it to be installed, choices are phone and trashflash. Is that phone memory refers to RAM that will be cleared when battery is removed or it is NV type ? and is that trashflash refers to flash memory that the OS resides ? how about BIOS, do we flash the BIOS as well ? I know Palm user can install s/w on the flash memory to save the RAM, and since we can upgrade the trashflash on this phone, does this mean I can upgrade the trashflash to a bigger one so that I can install apps to it and save space on the RAM ? According to my pass experience with Nokia, there are phone memory and external memory card, there is no mention about the flash since it is not flashable by user.

program install memory in the phone = flash ram (like a flash card)
its not the RAM(main memory), you can remove the battery and all data are still there.
the phone mem is around 50Mb big.

program install memory in the TransFlash = a flash memory crad(TransFlash, SD, miniSD, MMC, rcMMC...)
you can "upgrade it up to 1Gb (e680) and 2Gb (e680i/e680g), 4Gb (beta for e680i).
you can install apps and other data on the flashram..

BIOS? maybe you mean the flash ram section for the phones bootloader for the flash system files.

so the 680i does not have trashflash but SD that's what the installer refers to ? trashflash is micro SD and used in newer phone like the A1200, I forgot where I read that the phone uses trashflash that can be upgraded in service center, maybe I am wrong. BIOS I mean the firmware which the OS interacts with in PC terms. So, if I get you right, the flashing will upgrade the OS and the firmware too ?

transflash is smaller than sd cards so therefore you can use transflash cards as long as you have the sd converter (it just makes the transflash card bigger so itll fit). the phone can also use mmc along with sd. and btw sd and mmc cards have more memory than transflash does (largest transflash is 1 gb i think while 4gb sd cards are already out)

Yes I know that, one think I like the 680i is that it uses SD, so I can easily send pics or files with SD from digital camera or PDA, since most gadgets use SD as well.
