Default linux more compatible than symbian

I have recently been reading this statement in almost all the reviews that the latest symbian OS9.0 doesnt support the older softwares. Hence linux smartphones ultimately are at an advantage here.

Time to campaign for our phones guys n gals.

Sorry, but you don't know what you are talking about. Symbian has an SDK. Native apps will be recompiled sooner or later and Symbian S60 will again reach its 1000+ native applications out there.

And Motorola's Linux with continue to stay with its 25 ones.

the linux apps are comming now and future.. no worries...

also samsung has a new linux phone the i819 dual-mode (CDMA1 and GSM) but not 3G.
they using Mizi 2.5 linux and providing an STK...

the bad thing about symbian apps is that the older version of the apps not all of them are running on newer phone so people have to update all the time if they want to change their symbian phone.

i only had the nokia 7650 S60 symbian phone before the e680.

also i m sure that motorola want provide a STK with their next generation of real linux PDA-phones like our phones are...

Again, you don't know what you are talking about either.

    >the linux apps are comming now and future..

No, they are NOT. There is no NATIVE SDK available for the Motorola Linux phones.

    >they using Mizi 2.5 linux and providing an STK...

The Mizi platform is NOT the same as the Motorola EZX platform. The applications are NOT compatible.

    >also i m sure that motorola want provide a STK with their next generation of real linux PDA-phones like our phones are...

This is not verified at all (in his speech a few weeks ago he was NOT clear if the SDK will be giving to people for free or to just some selective companies). The person HEADING the Linux Motorola thing, is a JAVA PERSON (he has wrote books about java too). This is why he has consistently tried to kill the Linux native application base as much as he could by not releasing the SDK to the developers for free.

Motorola may not support it, but the open source community will have loads of apps available for these phones ultimately. The next few months are going to be very interesting. And already we're seeing ports of applications to EZX. Native SDK or not, we're going to get there, albeit slowly.

hmm.. so i have decide to buy another linux phone(samsung i819? with SDK) next time if motorola only support java apps...

we are luck that we have some good hackers and developers on here..

once i read that motorola also will support native apps with an SDK in future...
motorola have to do it, because its better to have a SDK on linux phones.. otherwise its not the same like M$ or symbian phones are with native programm installer SDK and apps...and other phone companies produce linux phones with native SDK's. i m sure it will come in future..

also java needs more (battery) power that native apps does..

Hehehe ... eugenia is very "militant" in "attacking" our Linux phone since the beginning, but she also helped me connect my E680i to my Mac, so I won't say something bad about her ... hehehe ... maybe she is only impatiently waiting for the rumored Apple iPhone ... :-p

The reason I'm stick with my E680i is because of this community. That's it. That's all.
Development of EZX-SysInfo / SysEdit application is completed! Version 0.1 Beta 2 is out. Check out in 'Bounty Projects' forum.

This is a load of wishful thinking without ANY base. These phones based on the EZX platform are out there for 2 years now. Without the SDK you CAN NOT write *native* applications. In other words, your statement is as valid as saying "it's going to snow in LA this summer, just because I want to".

I suggest you come back to real life. Without the SDK you can't do sh*t and the OpenEZX project is going nowhere. You can only install Java apps on these phones, because that's what Motorola wants you to do.

    @eugenia
maybe u r right. hmmm, no i must say that u r definitely right. its a big LOSS that thr is no SDK. i also know that how much symbian facilitates by providing the SDK. even windows mobile is better in this respect.
C, i agreed with u. now its ur turn to show some nice behavior...

may be the person who posted this topic, or the ones who supported it are a little more optimistic. maybe you can call them day-dreamers. maybe there cant be snowfall in LA this summer, cuz its in hands of no one here...
but when we talk abt E680/E680i/A780, day-dreamers like above ppl have a great role to play. they dream about things, they try to have it and if its not there, they try to make it. and they do it even without having native SDK. and then ppl like me can have apps in phone which make the proud users of symbian and winmobile in my office say just one thing abt my E680i. that thing is "WOW", in KAPS.

for our devs in here and CCMOVE and many other places, i have one quotation
"we the unwilling, working for the ungrateful, are doing the impossible. we have done so much, for so long, with so little. We are now qualified to do anything with nothing"

yes, having no SDK makes us unwilling at time
yes, motorola is being worst than ungrateful by providing nothing
and yes, our devs r really doing the impossible out of nothing

You are wrong. There are even two native SDKs. An unofficial one can be found here ezx-crosstool and here ezx-devkit. A second one (orignating from Motorola I think, although not officially supported) is floating around (try this: http://www.motorolafans.com/index.ph...=2478&start=40). And there are some applications available, which are developed by MotorolaFans.com members. You should look into the download section and the development forum. Other interesting sources are openezx and Planet OpenEZX. Hence there are good reasons to hope for more native apps in the future (although we probably won't reach the symbian platform in terms of numbers).
