    Default Telneting to e680i?

The AT+mode=99 gives an error. I have installed USBLAN to my PC.
    I just flashed to E680I_G_0D.C5.A4P_0D.B0.B1P_T674KV_L001_S015_P004_GSOE680IT674KV006_full.shx
    and copied
    E680I_G_0D.C3.A8P_0D.B0.B1P_T674VE_L001_S001_P006_GSOE680IT674VE006_fullCG37.smg
(not sure it was copied at rigth time and it didn't overwrite any file)
    I can't find acmattach.txt

if you've flashed to an e680i then at+mode=99 is no longer supported. I am not well versed in what is included in each of the different shx/smg, but you can check for threee possibilities:

    - the reflash included the proper hook to acmattach.txt such that you don't have to do anything at all (when the phone is in "modem" mode and acmattach.txt is available the phone automatically goes into USB lan mode as soon as its connected to the PC)

    - the reflash has linloader installed: in this case you should search the forums for acmattach.lin which will let you start the USB lan mode by hand on the phone (acmattach.lin is (i think) basically the same as acmattach.txt, but it can be recognized/run by lin loader, both are available on the forum if you do a search)

    - if the reflash has neither acmattach.txt nor linloader, then you need to install linloader first, then proceed w/ the acmattach.lin option.

I found a acmattach.lin and it worked. Just need to telnet to 169.254.142.2

what are you guys talking about telnetting to E680i, please enlighten me as I'm interested to know what it is for. I understand that it has got something to do with installing the driver Belcarra and changing the phone from usb to usblan but that's all i know.

The process changes your modem mode into USBLAN mode. In this mode, you can access all folders in your phone, even hidden and system folders. This way, you can do many things, such as modifying configuration files.
Development of EZX-SysInfo / SysEdit application is completed! Version 0.1 Beta 2 is out. Check out in 'Bounty Projects' forum.

I have another question. Doesn't connecting the usb cable to the PC under USB mode able to bring out those hidden system folders under windows explorer as well?

If so, why the trouble to use telnet?

There's a nice app to select the connection mode. Works on my E680(i).

via usb hard-drive mode you can see some "hidden" fiels (eg. a directory called .system), but you cannot even see the root system or (i think) /ezxlocal where the phone stores a lot of its own database information. Also, becuase of the process of making sections of the phones memory accessable as a usb harddrive certain phone memory access has to be limited to avoid memory conflicts (e.g. file browsing is limited, or maybe not even allowed at all, i cant remember).

With the USB lan option the phone is really treated as a separate "computer" with its own IP address. in this mode you can not only telnet to the phone, but access its entire memory contents as a shared network drive rather than as a usb harddrive as well as route other networking traffic, for example to browse the internet without using GPRS. it may even be possible to have the phone run its own webserver, accessable via USB or bluetooth, and hopeuflly someday, wireless.....

Ah.... I see. Thanks rpconnect. I can see the picture clearer now. I had recently got my E680i hung and was unable to boot up the phone. Only the Moto Icon appeared and stayed on the screen

I reckoned that it must be the cause of trying to reinstall the various themes available on Downloads so that I could uninstall them to get rid of the 'Memory Full' problem. Apparently, it got into a much serious problem.

I had brought it down to the Motorola service centre to get it fixed as my unit is still under warranty and now I'm going to try telnetting to the phone to look into changing the locked shortcut icons at the bottom of the screen.
