Vibrating Mode and Charging

Why does my E680i play sounds when I receive an SMS and it is on vibrating mode but plugged into my charger? Why should the charger change the setting?

its like that for a lot of motorola phones

According to motorola: you can not be in contact with the phone (or have it in your pocket) while its charging.

I had this complaint with Nokia, and I missed quite a few calls. So I think this is brilliant engineering.
