Default LeoPPP update 1.1 - tested on E680!!

OK folks, I discovered A780 and E680 are not quite identical... let's say 95%

PPP did not start on my E680. I discovered that you have to load some kernel modules to make it work on E680. On A780 these modules are loaded at boot time.

ANYWAY... here is a tar.gz file. Unpack it and overwrite the old installation of LeoPPP. Yes, YOU HAVE TO INSTALL 1.0 FIRST!

    Then...

    cd /diska;
    gzip -dc leoppp_update_1.1.tar.gz | tar xvf -

Remember that BlueTooth support for SPP is lacking in E680 so you can only use USB,but it works fine and you don't need any stupid belcarra driver.
If you happen to make it work under Windows I would appreciate to hear from you. No changes are needed on the phone, it's the stupid dial up
    Windows thing that sucks.

Well, to make a long story short.....

Put E680 in modem mode, plug USB cable, wait a few seconds, then click on USB PPP leopardus icon and when "PPP started" message appeasrs, start PPP on your PC.

Once connected, telnet 192.168.1.2 and enjoy!

If you are smart you will find some oher goodies in the leoppp folder.
Check out opentelnet.sh, you can run it from the file manager..........

ok... i can read the info on the pppUSB(on) or PPPoff(off) now..

    also i installed the leoppp1.1update

but how can i conect it to my windows computer?

    may:
connect the e680 to USB and start USBPPP and look in the computers file manager using 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.2?

or start USBPPP first on the e680 and connect the e680 to USB and use the computer file manager using 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.2?

also works that without the "at+mode=99" mode or not?

    1) connect USB cable (in modem mode)
    2) start USBPPP on the phone
    3) dial up PPP from your PC

I'm afraid you will have a very hard time with Windows.
    Try Linux or MacOSX.

Once PPP is CONNECTED then ping 192.168.1..2 should work.

AT+MODE stuff is for BELCARRA USBLAN mode only.
Not used with PPP since I don't use Belcarra technology.

    Thanks a lot.
Now I can go back to using my 2.6.9 kernel on my laptop.

A couple of notes as I learnt what was going on:

When I tried to unpack the second tar before having installed the first one I got errors setting the permissions on the files, although they seemed to turn up OK.

Then the install overwrote them with the first tar versions.

When I tried to untar the second tar having installed the first one it complained about privileges, something about a readonly filesystem, so I mounted the phone in usb mass storage mode and swapped the new version usbppp-start.sh in manually.

Errors about permissions can be ignored, the vfs file system doens't have permissions.

If you got complaints about read-only fs you did something wrong, e.g.
maybe you tried to unpack the tar while you were in the wrong place.
