Default E680 Phone turning itself off! Help needed ASAP

Hi, I just bought a secondhand E680 in reasonable condition, it seemed to go ok as I tested it.. not a problem at all.

Then I put the phone down and come back and it's off... I try to power it back up but it doesn't work. After re-inserting the battery it works again, but now it keeps turning itself off on standby - even after I charged it (which I did after the first time this happend). The only way to seem to get the phone going again aside from reinserting the battery is to plug in the wall charger.

Is my battery screwed? Or my phone? I'm thinking it's probably the phone because the battery has always shown 100% AND I charged the phone AND it only ever turns itself off when it's sitting idle.

ANYONE got an idea what the hell is going on with my phone?!

PS. Auto Shutdown and other power Management settings are all DISABLED this is not the cause!

PLEASE HELP ME - any advice WELCOME, I need to know if I should try get a refund from the seller.

    Thanks guys.

[edit] if there's an admin reading this, I know it's a longshot but could you let me know if the user here: "casiopaya" has a New Zealand IP address.. it would certainly be interesting as he could have been the seller....
    (his thread here http://www.motorolafans.com/index.ph...ewtopic&t=3413 )

I thought I'd add after turning Power Save off, when it turns itself off the Moto logo continues to flash orange, but no response on anything else.

[another EDIT] My battery is an SNN5683A - can anyone CONFIRM this is the correct battery for this phone?

Yes, SNN5683A is the correct battery.

One thing to try would be to connect the USB cable and telnet in, and then wait until the phone 'turns off' and see if you can still execute telnet commands. If the LED is still flashing, then it still has power and may be an issue with the touch screen. Also try holding down the camera button for a few seconds when the lock toggle is in locked mode and see if the clock screensaver comes up.

Also, although it doesn't sound like the problem, when you telnet in check that no filesystem is full by doing a 'df -h'.

Instructions for telnetting in are all over the forum if you haven't done it before.

I've done a bit more testing, here's what I've found.

It seems to go into a "lock" mode when idling, just like what happens when you use the lock slider, except the phone does not respond when being rung ( though rings on callers end ) and is obviously stuck in this lock mode until you re-insert the battery. Upon rebooting the phone it does not list the missed call either.. strange. But the LED does change colour according to whether the phone is getting signal or not.

When idling on the "SIM not detected... do you wish to...?" screen, the phone does not go into this 'lock' mode.

Is it possible that the seller removed certain files the phone counts on, and because it can't access them it seems to be going into a LOCKED/crashed state? It seems they cleared out about everything they could before selling the phone, and because this is Linux based I'm guessing it would probably respond unusually in a situation with missing files...

So yeah, I am starting to think this is software based, and I'd flash the phone but then I'm sure I won't be getting a refund if the problem persists... *sigh* I don't know what to do.

I guess I will try contact the seller and get my $340 NZD back, and if not I guess I'll probably try a firmware flash.

Well I returned it, and got my refund... Now I have the great task of trying to get another E680 or E680i (preferably one that doesn't have a serious issue lol) in this small isolated country *cry*
