    Default T-Mobile Internet on E680

Ok, I'd like to be able to access the internet on my E680, and I'll worry about the GPRS settings later, but I need something cleared up -- Do you have to get the T-Mobile Unlimited Internet add-on? I checked out the GPRS settings thread and apparently it's $20. I checked out the T-Mobile website and there's an add-on called T-Mobile Web for $5.99, which seems too good to be true -- but I'm not so sure...what's the difference, and which is really the add-on service for true internet access on the E680?

You need the $20/mo. T-Mobile Internet to get full internet access. The T-Mobile Web gives you WAP access through a proxy, the T-Mobile Internet gives you full IP access just like a desktop computer (http, email, SSH, VNC, etc.).

The good news though is that it works perfectly with the E680, it's pretty easy to set up, and T-Mobile actually doesn't care if you use a third party phone.

icic...its pretty convenient, even at 20 a month...if i do get it, is it recommended to get a different phone browser software, or is the factory one on the E680 fine?

The browser on the E680 is WAP-only so it's not very good. The E680i has Opera built in, which will do full HTML.

In my case though I had the E680 and didn't want to flash to the E680i firmware, so I use Opera Mini. Someone made a package for it, search the forums or look in the downloads section.

Picsel will also do full HTML, but I'd go with Opera Mini, it's just better all around.

I have the e680, and my wife has the e680i, I prefer her interface, but really there isn't much thats better about her phone other than her internet interface. So then Piscal or Opera mini would give me full web ability? Is the full Opera version better? What benefit would a full reflash to e680i firmware give me? I bought my phone used, and therefore I didn't get a cd-rom with drivers to connect the phone to my computer in usb modem mode. My computer recognizes the phone in mass storage mode, but not usb modem.

    I have only have E680 and haven't seen the E680i interface/integrated Opera.

I can say that using Opera Mini on the E680 is about as good as one could hope for. It's fast and looks good and works perfectly. It's free (at least for now) so I say just try it and see. You can get it from the Downloads section, or search for threads that have it.

The only advantage the integrated Opera on E680i probably has it that you can multitask when it's open and that you can follow links from SMS/Email like you can with the WAP browser on E680 (again, I haven't used the E680i but that would make sense). Since Opera Mini is a third-party Java app you can't switch from it to other areas of the phone and still have it running in the background.

As for general E680 vs. E680i advantages there are lots of threads on the subject, but since you have access to both phones you're probably in the best position to decide.

i have $5.99 tmobile web and it works fine with full html browsing, just set the port to 8080 instead of 9201. Beat the heck out of Cingular $19.99 plan, talk about annual savings.

no mean to sound like a complete retard, but you mean you get the same freedom as the $20 plan with the $ 5.99 by just changing the port?
