HELP, my screen freezes

I loaded the Alien theme from the fan site and it installed but it installed successfully on the E680.
Then when i went to the themes and select it as the theme. However it freezes after the startup screen. you can go to the various functions like camera and radio as they have external buttons. However, cannot access address book, and all the other functions.

I sent it into the motorola centre at Plaza Singapura and they call me back saying that the LCD screen is spoilt and say it'll cost S$180 to replace!!!

Can anybody help?

since u r staying in singapore, u can ask for help since there r a couple of singaporean in this forum that own the same phone n knew how to do the two procedure above. of course, u can't expect the phone to be okay if they willing to help u... maybe it is a genuine hardware failure. it is a paperweight afterall now.

now i'm stumped with the other question. how do i revert back to the original theme?

another method

Firstly I muz say that there is nothing wrong with the theme itself.. the only difference is that the bamboo theme has a much bigger iconres.ezx (abt 1 MB)... the phone internal RAM(i tink shld be the /usr directory) can only accomodate up to 5 MB of info... this includes the themes, your sms, mms messages, etc... so if u install too many themes at 1 go.. the chances of failed installation is very high..cos the iconres in that directory is not completely deleted also even if u delete the theme manually, unless u used Yantz theme_uninstaller.lin or manul telent to clear off the "garbage".

Usually this problem happens if u have the fw version like R51_G_0F.51.A1P, after installation, the installations showed a "failed installation", u go n set the theme in the theme changer, it will crash the phone as wat u have described! this is becos this firmware version does not suppt custom themes!

If u cant use the telent method suggested by Yantz cos u never set the phone to modem mode, u can try this hard reset method to see if it works:

1) Power Off phone
2) Press n hold the following 3 keys :
Volume lower key(side bottom left) +
Camera Key (side top right) +
Power on/off button (front bottom right)
3) U will see some sort like windows "Blue screen" or BSOD like appearing:
ｒｅｓｅｔ　ｂｐ
　　　　　ｅｎｄreset ｂｐ
　　　　　．．．．．．．．．
．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．．
　　　　start reflash code　

4) Note: u muz see the "start reflash code" before doing step 5, else keep repeating the same procedures till u see it
5) wait for 1 min, power off... restart...
6) Everything should be back to normal, u may still have ya contacts lists n messages intact.. u only lose the manual installed programs
7) Once u get to step 6, i suggest u do a syn with ya PC to "save" the contact lists....n then after that perform a master reset to get back to factory default, else the crash problem may come back.....

Btw, I have not tried this method b4, cos i never have crashing problems.
but this method can be tried without any harm if ya phone really cannot wotk due to the failed installation n activatin of custom themes...

If u try alot of times still cannot, i suggest u get it to the customer service to "flash" it....

to think that the motorola center wanted to charge me $180 to change the LCD screen for this problem! i think what they're doing is only replacing the parts to see what works and then give it back to you!

a lot of times its cheaper for them to replace a bunch of parts then take the time/effort to test anything; even if it is just a software/firmware problem.

i basically deleted the theme and replaced it with the default theme, i think its E680_BLUE.

thank you very much for all the help. i think i'll need to brush up on my DOS program to have some more fun with the phone.

its cheaper for them, but will cost me a big hole in my pocket!

Some themes really causes the phone some problems. A new program by Intoxicated is quite nice. You can install & uninstall theme through it.

Just use the search feature & look for theme manager.
