Default message waiting indicator and firmware

    Hey guys,

I just got my E680, and am joining your community. I've been playing with it for a while, and noticed a couple things. I'm in the US on T-mobile, and the phone won't display the message waiting indicator when I have a voicemail. Instead, I get an sms with a couple characters in it. Does this phone not support the message waiting indicator?

Also, this may be a stupid question, but how do you check the firmware? I have been reading your posts about the phone not having IM, but mine has it installed. I would like to check the firware, and I'll let you guys know which one I have. Thanks.

Some people have mentioned the voicemail problem. Check the URL below, pages 1 and 2. Search for voicemail on those pages. From what I gather editing the "seem" file is one way to go about it, not sure if there are other solutions. Personally the VM icon worked for me (Cingular), but I don't have IM so I guess we're even.

I had to do the SEEM edit, and it went (pardon the pun) seamlessly. I'm in Cingular in California.

No IM, no VM inficator on my E680 when I got in in November 2004. It did have english manual though, whcih was nice.

    to view your firmware:

    1) Goto phone dialer
    2) punch in WWW008W where W=Insert Wait from bottom right corner of phone dialer
    3) firmware version show up for afew seconds.

else, telnet to \\169.254.142.2\system\etc\ap_version.txt to view firmware.

I just tried editing offset 3d, bit 1 in 0032_0001.seem to enable the VM system msg, but it didn't have an effect. Anyone gotten this to work?
