Ok, I have solved the problem & I'm laughing at myself a bit.
I did this mod over a year ago & because I checked and saw the the phone was now quad band, I assumed it was successful. Eventually I saw an 'E' pop up on the phone and this helped to confirm that it was successful.
However, I did notice that the phone would be constantly flipping between 'G' & 'E' and again, I assumed that it might have been an inconsistent or incomplete system here where I live.
Eventually though the phone would loose gprs service & I would have to call the network for them to restart the gprs service on their end. Soon, I noticed that I seem not to be able to find gprs service where others on the same network could.
Next I noticed that the phone's battery was dying very quickly. This was solved if I disabled the gprs.
I recently travelled to the US & encountered a problem with the phone going in a rebooting loop the moment I turned it on. I was able to figure out it was linked to the gprs and figured a way to disable it & stop the cycle. I eventually moved from the east coast of the US to the west coast & decided to try enabling the gprs. Though it worked, I did notice that even up here, it was still doing that switching thing, plus I noticed more (see post above).
It finally got it through my thick head that I should get over my fear of re-doing this mod and it has now solved all the issue.
Now the phone is always on 'E' and the speeds are fast.
Hope this helps anyone with similar issues.
I like my phone again.
