I've been using this phone for a few weeks. I enjoyed this phone, except the lack of voice dialing. I've read in a Chinese forum that someone has tried to flash the phone with A1200 firmware and were able to use the voice dialing feature, but the firmware doesn't recognize the SD card. I tried to contact this guy to obtain more info, but haven't gotten any reply yet.
I've also tried to merge the voice recognition part from A1200 firmware and merge it to E6 firmware, but this seems to be very difficult. I was able to start the Voice Print security app from the A1200 firmware on the E6 and got the screen to prompt me to record a voice print, but it's unstable.

DAGr8, thanks for the reply. I took the plunge and flashed my E6 with A1200 24P firmware. The Voice Recognition function works perfectly on the E6. The camera key becomes the VR key, and the bottom right button becomes the camera key. The firmware doesn't recognize the SD card and FM radio also doesn't work. Besides, everything else seems to work fine. I'll try to merge the 2 firmware together and see if these problems can be resolved.
that's amazing news i imagine with a couple of tweaks this will be a fully working feature
i wouldnt want my camera shutter button changed though is it possible to make the shortcut button the voice recognition button?
I've managed to merge A1200 & E6 firmwares. The SD card & FM radio are both working now. However, the E6 camera button no longer acts as the Voice Recognition key. The key codes for A1200 & E6 kernels seems to be different. If anyone know how to remap the A1200 VR key, pls let me know.
I don't know if it is the same or not, but in the E2, the key mappings are in a CG.. I believe 42 or 43. If one just took the mappings from E6 f/w and put them in the Merged, it should work.
Just made a little progress. I found the keycode table in the kernel. The kernel is a zImage located in CG33. I was able to decompress the kernel and patch the table, but I haven't been able to recompress the kernel yet. Does anyone have access to the kernel GPL source code for the E6? It will be much easier to recompile the kernel instead of recompressing the binary back to zImage.
WOW, if voice dial can be enaled i would certainly buy ROKR .
Wow Mate someone should change your status here from Newbie to Superhero !!!!!![]()
You seem to know a lot about Linux phone man , Once your done with this mod you think you d be able to do all the seem edits on the firmware before you share it ( quad band edge etc)? that would be the first custom Firmware Ever !!!!
Also Maybe it would be easier to just add the program in the E6 Firmware that way , We could use shortcut keys to launch the application ( regardless of having a dedicated key ) of coure there is one customisable key on the E6 that could be use aswell ... hope that helps .
Well, I'm new to Linux phones, but not Linux. I'm a homebrew developer for PSP iR Shell and a Linksys WiFi router custom firmware.
As for the VR key, I can patch it to any button on the E6, even the dial button. The shortcut button on the lower right corner seems to be the best candidate. However, you will not be able to customise this key for anything else once patched, except for VR.
