Ah yes, the big "if" question. I'm having this problem after reflashing my phone. Everything seems to be functioning normally, but I have the question if some flash roms make the phone unrecognizable to mpt.

yes some modded roms can give this sort of problems but not all

Flash your phone with Generic firmware & check.. This will rule out where is the problem..

The problem turns out not to be the firmware - I flashed a second firmware and still couldn't sync. I ended up managing to sync with the new firmware using an old version of MPT on a machine running XP. Not bad except that it converted all of my Chinese phone book entries to gibberish. I am going back to the firmware I wanted to use, and switching the xp system non-unicode language to Chinese. I'll see if it can restore properly now.
Much thanks to the helpful. If this all works out I'm done flashing this phone. I really need some way to sync it without using MPT. I think I've had this problem a couple times before, for no apparent reason.
