    Ok buddy i can help u

    theres no need of any third party software to connect net in UBUNTU 9.10

    Just follow the steps.

    1. see the network icon on upper right corner of your desktop ? click on it

    2.it will show you options like "Wired network " n blah blah

    3.you will also see a VPN option select that and select configure VPN

    4.then a window will be opened consisting all network configurations....click on mobile broadband

    5.click on add button

    6. a wizard will be opened select your device and click forward

    7.then on next window select your country .....................its must as after selecting country you ill get all the settinggs of available service providers in your country

    8.select the service provider if it is in the list or manually add your apn

    9. and then you have done ...click on apply you should be able to connect now

    hope this helps you

    @Ajinkyalele
    I think CLI approach might be better. As everyone here not just using Ubuntu-GNOME; but still doing those AT command is often slight headache to me.

    @sup_rocks
    have read Modem-HOWTO or using a front-end utilizing it? mack's connectivity pack will do it for you for real

    i was using e6 to connect to internet on ubuntu hardy (8.10).
    I remember it was done using wvdial.
    Now I am using that modem dongle thing. Easily connects using the method Ajinkyalele described.
    I'll see if E6 can be connected the same way. I have KUBUNTU 9.04 though (not yet upgraded)

    this works if you set-up the connection properly. Dials automatically on startup.
