.pkg installation

hi all i wanted to know is it necessary to have a mpkg installer to run .pkg file or can we do it without that?

it depends on your firmware- there are mpkg and pkg files which can be installed - what is your firmware?

To install most native apps you don't need anything additional.
In order to install any native app. compatible with your phone you woud need to place directory from the archive in attachment to this post in your
/.system/QTDownLoad/ directory on your SD card
also you will need to add the following lines to your /.system/java/CardRegistry file with this abstract:

!!!!Make sure you use such kind of text editors to amend CardRegistry (since this file should contain UNIX format compatible text) and not Windows Notepad!!!!

After you do this you will place any pkg or mpkg file to your SD card tap and hold it and then select <use the following program to open this type of file> -> (MPKG)

i was wondering if i have to do the following once my phone is connected to the pc or can i do it directly?? as by the looks of it, it sounds as if i have to be connected and then i can edit the settings.

if you will download native app. directly to your phone try installing it - if it doesn't work you would need to connect your phone as <Mass Storage> and access files that I mentioned and do what I described.
Answering your question - YES - you will need to access your phone card sooner or later

Frankly, i think it's easier to replace your .system folder with ones people have shared (those with mpkg, busybox, etc)
