    Default Repair - Opening E6

I need to open my E6 to possibly repair the audio out jack - seems to get stuck so that it always thinks it's in earphone mode - so can't make calls, listen to music, etc.

Does anyone know how to open it ? Is there a graphical guide to show screw locations, etc? I bought a screwdriver kit today and it has all the small screwdrivers, and odd shaped ones, etc.

I removed the two screws at the base of the battery compartment but am stuck here.

    Can someone please help ?

There are four srews, two on top , and two in the botton corners (under some paper cover)
The you just have to use force to detach the front from the back,
Try little by little until its will be mostly off, then use some and voila.
Be carefull with the side buttons
and everything is glued so don't worry, you don't have more that four screws

Thanks folks. I had no idea where the other 2 screws were. I assumed where they were but didn't know how to remove the upper back cover.

I was able to get done what I needed !

    BUT !!!!!!!!! I broke something.

When you remove the back cover there is a remove board - the board that holds the SIM card When putting the phone back together I broke the upper end ribbon cable that attacked onto that SIM card board - only 3 or so mm in size. It snapped and completely tore.

My question is - what does that thing do ?

Trial and error shows that my phone works fine. I'm guessing that the thing is what allows VIBRATION TO WORK. I can make and receive calls, send receive messages, etc. But, it looks like vibration no longer works.

    Can anyone confirm ?

I may try to find a spare cable at my local Motorola shop. I'm living in China and know of a local retail shop for them. We'll see.

    Anyhow

I guess I need to open the phone again to find the part and the part number

Also, I need to replace the headset jack module - which I was surprised to see just pops out as a piece and is not solder in-place. So I need to get the part number too

Or, I just can just take my phone with me, open, and show them what I need. Hopefully I only need the ribbon cable and not the board as I mentioned and the jack should be simple.

I don't speak Chinese, so this will have to be show and tell without the tell - namely charades to show what I need.

    Thanks !!!

I have no clue what that cable does,
in mine the lock broke, and it doesn't vibrate, that might be the problem, never think of that

Funny enough, it's kind of stupid that I don't know what it does. Because if you simply look at the tiny ribbon cable that I'm talking about, it goes directly to the little servo that is the vibrator - so that's exactly what it does, no need to guess.

I went to a local Motorola shop here in China today and they want to charge 120RMB for the vibrator and 60RMB for the little headset jack - all totaled coming to around $24 US. Of course, it will take a week to get the parts - yet the phone was made in China.

Here is a close-up shot of the part ....
