HELP: MySwap not working?

Hi,

I'm trying to use Imahotguy's myswap pkg application. when i run it, it saying "Activating Swap", and then "Swap Enabled". Even that swapping folder gets created in the card. All cool. But then when i check my memory status, it still says the maximum adding up to about 16mb. And i cant say i've noticed a discernable difference in the phone's speed. Any ideas?

Dear All..
I to have the same problem with My E6 , It's installed, Activated, a folder by name Swap got created with my Memory card, a folder ON created inside MMC/Swap I even used the 128 mb Swap...
But no Improvement...
when ever i tried to open a Pdf file (5 Mb) with Viewer My phone says Phone is Out of Memory, Do U want to close the Application...

The same use to happen before applying the Swap thing...

I jus wanna know, whether this application working with others ?

I uninstalled the Swap now (Why to load up my memory when it dosen't help it's purpose)

I'm having this problem too - surprilsingly Imahotguys mySwap used to work fine for me. But something happend and now, I do get the conformation that swap is enabled, and see the ON file in Memory card, but sysinfo shows no additional free mem !

I've installed Dedraks Swap manager and that works fine ! I am able to see increased freememory after enabling swap from Dedraks Swap Manager.

I guess you guys used the built-in 8mb memory of myswap... It still shows 0 on sysinfo on mine as well... My recommendation? Use a higher swap file, starting from 12MB... I used that file and works great! I'm not saying dedraks' app is not good for me, I'm just thinking that the coding is just the same... After all, they both do activate the swap partition on the SD card... If I'm wrong, please correct me...

Hello!

Another fix when sysinfo is showing 0 and you only have the default swap.bin installed:

1.) Download this file.
2.) Copy it in the root folder of your sd card.
3.) Run this command on eKonsole: /mmc/mmca1/mkswap /mmc/mmca1/Swap/swap.bin (Case sensitive!)
4.) Wait for the prompt again, then close eKonsole.
5.) Activate MySwap.
6.) Open sysinfo.

This should fix the issue... Hope this helps!

4.) Wait for the prompt again, then close eKonsole.
5.) Activate MySwap.
6.) Open sysinfo.

Tried this method. Still no good. Everything ran smoothly. I used the ekonsole i found in the a1200 stickies. Memory status still adds up my memory to only 16mb, not, say, 16 + 8 = 24mb.

I dont want to use dedrak's package, for somebody has said there that you cant use the phone in mass storage mode while it's on. My phone is connected to the comp all the time as mass storage. I think that problem is not there in the MySwap thing.

Thanks for the help though, and post me if u have any other ideas.

Hello xetaman!

Swap uses only one bin file at a time... If you need more than 8 mb of swap, then you'll need to create/download a bigger swap file... And when using sysinfo you'll see a section where Swap memory is allocated... And by the way, when you'll use your phone on mass storage, you'll still need to disable swap, even if you're using MySwap... Not unless you've partitioned your SD card, w/c I'm not familiar...

And to create your own swap file:

Type this on eKonsole:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/mmc/mmca1/swap.bin bs=1M count=16 [Change the last value if you want a biiger Swap file, let's say 64 or 128...]

then:
1.) download the file first, and save it to root on SD card.
2.) Type /mmc/mmca1/mkswap /mmc/mmca1/swap.bin on eKonsole.
3.) Copy the bin file to the /Swap folder.

When you activate MySwap again, it will show the increase Swap space on sysinfo...

Use "sysinfo" to see what I'm saying... When using swap, it will create a new section where the swap file is allocated/used...

It sounds like corrupted Swap files, in the end. I'd saw that for anyone who is having issues w/ that MySwap app (Which, is in the process of getting a facelift), to re d/l the swap files, or even, make them yourself.
