E6 General Chat Motorola ROKR E6 is somehow a candybar version of the A1200 as they functions very similarly but with far more multimedia capabilities!

Default Linux Desktop Application - Synchronisation Options

Greetings All,

Does anyone know of any Linux based desktop applications that will allow syncing with the A1200 or E6?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Hi james,

What kind of synching are you talking about? Contacts..etc?

AFAIK, the Motorola Phone Tools is the only official way of synching with the mobile and from Motorola's web address - "Motorola Phone Tools requires Windows® 2000, Millennium, or XP.".

I guess for a Linux box you need to have a virtual machine emulator with windows installed to work. But due to the limitations posed by the VM..it may not be feasible.

Hi there,

I am looking to sync calendar, contacts and tasks with Linux.

I don't want to use MPT tools (possibly via Wine) as I would also need to install Outlook.

I am wondering if anyone has hacked the sync API to allow for syncronisation with a Linux application such as Evolution or something similar.

Any ideas?

Regards,

JamesK

Hmmm..

Since MPT is for windows platform and with it being a separately sold product and being exclusive to Moto... I don't think anyone would have been able to hack it. But if someone does hack it...please post here.

What you can do is look for some bluetooth enabled sync app for your PC / Laptop if you have bluetooth. Search for commercial / free ware apps for linux which can synch data to a J2ME enabled device. If i find something like this..I'll surely let u know.

That looks very promising. I'm going to have a look at that right now.

The Ming (A1200) is already stated by the author to work - so I am guessing that the E6 shouldn't be a problem at all.

Thanks again for the pointer!

I've been playing with this for a few days, and I think I have a working Evolution sync w/ the E6 without the use of a M$ Windows box.

I'm using syncevolution to sync the evolution up to ScheduleWorld. There are others available .. and I think it works w/ Horde also.

Then ScheduleWorld is compatible w/ OTA SyncML .. so the E6 should theoretically be able to sync w/ the server. My data connection w/ T-Mobile gets going on Friday, so I'll report back when I've verified that the E6 / SyncML worked.

It's not direct from Linux desk/laptop to E6 .. but seems like it will be functional and stable.

Not sure if that's what you're looking for ..
