what do you mean? If you are taking pics w/ the phone, then it saves in a compatible format. Otherwise, the phone recognizes GIF JPG JPEG PNG and probably more. Just trial and error if you are unsure...

Anyways... I played around with uploading images to the phone a bit and I noticed that the phone doesn't take image dimensions greater than 3000x2250. So... maybe you should consider resizing your images to something smaller.
To save space, I'd suggest you just resize everything to 320x240 at best settings. It is the lowest dimensions your phone can take before its resolution starts to drop. (hm.. I hope I said that correctly and it makes sense, lol)
