E680 Kernel sources available

So finally its done, KERNEL SOURCE OF E680 ARE AVAILABLE!!!

Some guys of you want the whole story how I got it, the other one only the sources. For the second group its time to scroll down to end of article, there is a link to the sources.

Ok let's begin, but where? Not to far away in the past I will start at the moment I thought it must be possible to get the sources, because some guy already got the sources by motorola for the a760 and posted it at SourceForge. Next step was in my mind to contact him and to ask where he got his sources, he told me it was a hard way to find out contact adress from motorola for this stuff. But after a half year he found out. So all plaudit goes to him that it was a so fast process. Next step is to ask for sources for E680i and A780!

Ok next step was to wait on phone eh sourcecode I tracked it online and saw after a day it was at customs, but one day later it was still at customs and one day later they called me that package was declared with an invoice value of 200$ and asked whats inside because its only a cd. they wanted a declaration from me describing what it is, so I send them the following fax (sorry in german):

Der Inhalt des Frachtbriefes ist der Quellkode des Kernels meines Motorola E680 Handys. Dieses Handy basiert auf einem Linux-Betriebssystem. Da Motorola Änderungen an dem Kernel vorgenommen hat, sind sie laut der GPL (Lizenz für freie Software http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html) des Kernels dazu verpflichtet diese Änderungen kostenlos oder gegen eine geringe Aufwandsgebühr (z.B. Rohlings- oder Versandkostenentschädigung) weiterzugeben. Weiterer Quellcode, der Eigentum von Motorola darstellen würde, befindet sich nicht auf der CD.

Ich kann nicht nachvollziehen, warum Motorola einen Warenwert in der von Ihnen mir telefonisch mitgeteilten Höhe angegeben hat. In meiner Kommunikation mit Motorola fiel auch niemals ein Wort von einer Gebühr oder ähnliches. Ich erhalte die Sendung frei Haus.

At morning I was chatting with admin as i decided it was time to go to work ( at 10:45 MESZ) a little bit late but today my mind was not so good, because yesterday they said company has no money more and they denounced a lot of jobs, one of them was from a friend from me, he was today last day here but thats not important for this story. Ok I jumped shortly under the shower, and - oh no - it rings at the door, Ok I hoped thats not again someone who is bringing in some ads to my letter box, and i go to door, with shampoo on the head and I dont believed someone was coming upstairs and I was naked, ok lets end with this thriller end give me a towel. I hoped it was not the first time for the DHL-man to see someone with shampoo in the hair at the door and took my package. Ok fast again under the shower, was bringing shower session to end as far as I can i opened the package, a big package for a small cd! motorola did also a printed GPL inside. Ok now work has to wait a moment again, I transferd the cd on my pc and looked shortly inside, my first impression was, yeah motorola faked us, because there was a linux-2.4.17 directory inside and E680 shows 2.4.20, a fast look in config offered that it was inside set to 20. But now I drove to work, yeah maxx with my bike In meantime I had to eat something and tried 3 times to upload sources to sourceforge, but I got everytime a timeout.

As a little pause I put the confused online track here, you will wonder the package was already in germany and than again in china, and customs had it very often in their hands:

Important to say at last, if you develop kernel modules please contact me, I would add you as developer and than you can develop and share modules from there.

Ah, the contactadress from motorola is of course witouth the XXX, please change it to a @ all other stuff i have deleted is perhaps private stuff...

edit: perhaps someone can post this info to ccmove, the guys there would be happy too I think.

I forgot to write the tax story:
I phoned with customs 1 hour before package arrives because the online tracking has confused me, and they said me i have to pay 37 euro tax, thats bad and i dont understand why motorola marked it with a so huge invoice value.

Who wants to take part can spend a little amount to me at sourceforge
