you can try minuet, it is not as good as OperaMini but it allows you to access servers not accessible from internet.

minuet is not easy to use and is commercial (you can erase its database to extend trial period)

Hi, I tried using your binary, but it looks like I have some configuration problem, when I use the profile and connect it, the main phone screen freeze. I'm still able to use all menus, but it seems that the app that tries to connect when the fake_dsm is active always freeze (in this case, the configuration screen for Data Connections), if I try the browser, the same happens (browser freezes).

I tried leaving it there for a while with no changes, so I killed the "offending" processes and my phone is normal again.

I would really love to use this feature, is it possible that it happens because I have the A1200 (not "i" model)?

I think you are trying to use Opera Mobile --- the browser that came with the phone. This always happens with Opera Mobile.

You need to use the OperaMini Browser or Minuet (JAVA).
Fake_dsm (as of today) works only for Java Programs.

Native programs not created by motorola (not pre-installed) can freely access usblan. Pre-installed native programs like Opera will FREEZE with fake_dsm (this version).

I understand that, but as I stated before, the main screen freezes when trying to connect, by that I mean I go to Config -> Data Connections, select the fake profile I created (configured to use a local proxy server running on my laptop) and the CONNECTION freezes, you see, it never really connects, because the application (Conection Settings page of the menu) freezes (despite of the fact that I get a "Connected" message as soon as I hit "Connect"), but I can't leave that page, cause it freezes.

The native Opera freezes, OK, but shouldn't I be able to go back from the "Data Connections" menu page after hitting "Connect" there?

no matter what you do in the configuration native pre-installed Opera will ALWAYS use GRPS and will freeze waiting a response from it because it is not connected.
the only way to do what you want is to also fake the GPRS connection.
why you don't want to use Java OperaMini?

    Ok, my bad...

Sorry about that, I just downloaded Opera Mini and tried it. Just perfect! Thanks for the awesome work man.

It seems that the fake profile must be called inside the Java App, and not using the A1200 configuration menus.

Again, thanks and sorry about the mess...

    Default fake_dsm with A910

    Dear Clovis KKK
I own a A910 (Wifi with UMA, locked for British Telecom).
But I'm not a client of BT, and I just want to configure the phone to connect wifi for ssh and opera (native or kvm opera-mini)

I was able to telnet (there was no telnetd).
    Linux A910 2.4.20_mvlcee31-mainstone_pxa27x
    MontaVista(R) Linux(R) Consumer Electronics Edition 3.1

Then I succeed to connect to any Access Point.

The last step was to setup a fake_dsm profile in order to run kvm opera-mini
(I do all those setting with the usblan interface A910 usbl0 192.168.1.2 - PC usb0 192.168.1.1. When it will work, I'll change to the eth0 wifi interface)

But with kvm app, I've got no luck:
I use your fake_dsm_ForA1200 adapted by you from Mack's connectivity pack, And try to ssh my 192.168.1.1 PC with MidpSSH http://www.xk72.com/midpssh/
(For this, I don't need to set a proxy)
but MidpSSH wait forever, nothing is sent ( nothing with tcpdump -i usbl0 not port 23)

    I try then your dsm_spy
    mv /tmp/dsm.ipc /tmp/dsmback
    ./dsm_spy
I allow MidpSSH to send data (not a real gprs session ;-) ) but get:
    connected: 4
ERROR connecting forward socket : No such file or directory

Any suggestion? I really wish to surf nearly everywhere with a A910 (and share an howto to motorolafans!)

    Ber

  9. Default A910 and Wi-Fi

    Bernard,

Any luck getting your A910 to connect to a Wi-Fi network? Sorry I haven't been around in a while, lots of changes here.

PM or Email me for more.

    Default OTA sync through USBLan

Bragon, I know this is quite old.
I'm trying to something like that: an OTA sync through the USB connection to my local Exchange server to sync also the mails.

Where you able to solve this? I have search the threads for such thing but still couldn´t make it work.

    Thanks

I still have a question since on my old a780 I was running the mackconnectivity pack which was using a fake_gprs.o module in order to expand the scope of fake_dsm to have it working with native opera and other phone applications.

I think this is the right way to go. I will regenerate iptables modules.

The only missing piece of the puzzle so far is the fake_gprs source code...

My plans are to use airsync exchange or ota to get rid of mobile phone tools and have a fully working solution with a linux host and my phone to sync contacts/calendar/mails etc. without using the gprs $$$ interface.

    Cheers,
