Default Choosing a good phone for development

    Hello all,

I will be doing some development on an EZX phone and am not sure at this point which would be the best to go with. It seems like the a780 and e680i have the best support from openezx.org, crosstools, here (FWDump), etc. Which one would you suggest has the best support? Should I just go by price? Are they all equally available in the US? Which one have people found easiest to work with?

I will be writing a kernel module and mostly user space code.

Also, what else do I need? USB cable? Does it come with TransFlash card?

I've searched the forums and other places and can't seem to make a decision. Thanks in advance for the replies.

Guys. Please help me out here. I would really appreciate everyone's opinions on which EZX phone would be easiest to work with and what accessories I will need to order. Sorry if this is a n00b question, but I've looked around and didn't see anything that suggested one over the other for development reasons.

    Thanks.

at this point the e680i/a780 is probably the best "supported" phones. for the most part the biggest difference right now is the lack of SDK for native ezx apps on an a1200; there exists a reverse engineered one that works for the e680i/a780 but the libs in the a1200 are different enough that it wont work.

i have an e680i and a1200, and it is currently much easier to develop for the e680i; i've been doing what i can to get dev for the a1200 up to speed but its taking some time.

as far as equipment all you will really need is the usb cable (whcih should come w/ the phone) and a memory card (which also usually comes with, but not necessarily)

i'm not sure if you looked into it yet, but if you are curious about development i'd strongly suggest checking out mkezx.

    have fun

yeah the most common linux phones are e680(flashed to i/g), real e680i/g and a780 .
the a780 also was sold in europe..
    Motorola e680 (flashed to e680i) + 4Gb SD card + HT820 Stereo BT Hedphones,
    Ubuntu 6.10 + 7.04,
    Nokia N95 + 8Gb microSD
