just found out that is possible to play Videos with max. 640x480res on the phone directly.. i was in a nokia forum and some they say that is possible to play 640x480 res videos on their phones.
hope it is possile to make it for our linux phone.
here the Video app, codec and sources for nearly every CPU and system.

but wont the video files take more space than it is suppose to? having higher resolution rendered on a low resolution screen, might not be required. From my understanding it might take around 4 times more space than the 320x240 version. I guess it is always better to convert to the format in which it is finally rendered, unless someone is very aversive to conversions.Originally Posted by tarwin

yeah a 640x480res video needs more mem on the card, but many people dont not know about video converting or they are too lazy to do it.
if the player works on the phone with 640x480res video then probable the 320x240res(and 352x288res) videos has no lag anymore and will good smooth.

well, the thing is that sometimes one doesn't have the time to convert
also a GOOD 320x240 video is not that much smaller than the original res
a 700MB movie turns into a 600MB movie (more or less), but these look GREAT, which is why they're so big
hmm.. it depends on the personality and the quality of the movie.. also a 320x240res movie can have 1300Mb, but i mostly have a movie size of 150- 300Mb by 320x240res, 15-25FPS, because i know how to do convert a movie.Originally Posted by tarwin
with cards of 2 - 8Gb, people want just copy and watch the movies ot the card nevermind what size and res they are.
I know how to convert movies y-cyas, but I'm also very demanding about quality when it's possible.
Since the video player can handle it I prefer video that has no stray artifacts at all, and have it at a minimum f 23.976 frames per second (depends on the original video at what fps I'll have it) I also have the sound at 96kbps since lower quality sound can sound horrible sometimes, especially on the speakers at higher volumes
a "half hour" show (normally they're really about 22 or 24min long) takes up anywhere between 120-18MB (averaging on 145MB) when it's live action, cartoons require less.
so blame Moto for not adding in a separate video (and sound) processing chip
high frame rate is important but so is the bit rate
high fps with low br still equates to poor video quality (with a few exceptions like the real format and divx on close 2nd)

no, I GET good quality, it just requires a lot of space, eplayer, zmplayer, ezxplayer, jplayer and others can handle very good quality videos
it's only realplayer that can't
30min 320x240res movie with 145Mb x 3 = 90min = 435Mb too much for my 1Gb mem card also i want have some good quality mp3's on it. i dont convert so that a 320x240res movie will use 500Mb or more.. you can do it if you have a big mem card min. of 2Gb.
maybe also it depends what movie converter you use.. i use mostly VirtualDub and divx -even it runns on linux with wine, because its fast even on my slower computer.
