Default App: UniversalRemote - Control any application from A780

I have tested this with my A780 mobile and Windows XP SP2 computer (with .net 2.0). I dont know about other mobiles.

    Snip from README

    ========== UniversalRemote v 1.0 - by Gerald Naveen A ==================================

what is it: UniversalRemote aids you to control "any" application thru your mobile (A780).
The remote works thru bluetooth SPP. You need to run the UniveralRemote Server on your
computer. The remote application communicates to the UniversalRemote server and simulates
keypresses on the computer. The remote has 12 keys. You can create your own profiles for
various applications and assign various shortcuts to those 12 keys. Based on the selected
profile, you can control the desired application from your mobile. And all these from a
very good distance (farther than Infra-red traditional remotes) and without any need for
line-of-sight requirement. The profiles are stored in .gur files. You can create your own
profiles and assign shortcuts to any application in the way you want. You can also copy
profiles from others and use it. Put them in the same folder where you have copied the
gerald_univremotesrv.exe binary, and the application will automatically load those profiles
during startup (if they are valid).

Note: You need MS .Net Framework 2.0 for running the UniversalRemote server. If your computer
does not have it installed, please install it from downloads.microsoft.com.

    Installation procedure:
    1. Install gerald_univremote.mpkg
    2. Copy gerald_univremotesrv.exe to your windows machine.

    Using UniversalRemote:
    1. Enable bluetooth on Mobile and on Computer and pair them.
DO NOT ESTABLISH SPP (SERIAL PORT SERVICE) FROM YOUR BLUETOOTH SOFTWARE
    2. Start gerald_univremotesrv.exe
    3. Select the COM port for incoming SPP and click start.
    4. If everything is fine and if you've selected the right COM port, you would be given a
notification in your mobile, asking the permission to connect thru SPP. Click OK to accept.
    5. Click on the UnivseralRemote icon in the phone.
    6. Select the desired profile based on which application you want to control.
    7. Start the application on the computer.
    7. Now you can click on the buttons on the mobile phone, and control your application.

    IMPORTANT:
    * UniversalRemote server does not really know which application your profile is created for.
So it always sends the key presses to the "active" application. In most circumstances, it
so happens that the application you wish to control would be the active application. But
please be aware of this. I cannot do anything do solve this
    * You can do only those actions which have a corresponding shortcuts associated with it. You
cannot simulate any mouse actions with this application.

    Enjoy!

As I have mentioned in my readme, you can create your own profiles, and even share it with others.. So later people can even share their profiles for UniversalRemote for various applications, so we can just download use it.

I am publishing the profiles I had created as test samples here. Again, the profiles I submit are just samples; they are not comprehensive enough to cover various features of the applications. Please extend yourself and post a complete one here.

Extract the zip file (3 .gur files) to the folder where you had copied the gerald_univremotesrv.exe. The server app will load it automatically during startup.

NOTE: you can change profiles dynamically anytime you want. No need to restart server/client apps.

Shortcuts based on the 3 profiles I have attached here.

    powerpoint
    1 - first slide
    2 - prev slide
    3 - next slide
    4 - last slide
    5 - start ppt
    6 - stop ppt

    windows media player
    1 - Play/Pause
    2 - Stop
    3 - Full Screen
    4 - Mute
    5 - close full screen

    winamp
    1 - previous track
    2 - play
    3 - pause
    4 - stop
    5 - next track

You can download .net Framework 2.0 from this URL:

    www.microsoft.com/down...laylang=en

If the link does not work, google for "download .net framework. 2.0".

Please note that version 2.0 is very important, previous versions of .net framework will not work (I am using new classes in FCL in .net fw 2.0)

This can simulate key presses right?

So here's a suggestion for anyone who might use to wish to use it with an app which is not the active window or might lose focus, or might switch between apps.

Set one of the keys to be Alt+tab to be able to cycle through apps

    Now to download and test

I installed .Net 2.0, now to see if it will work properly with SP1 and the app with an e680i

whether or not it works, great work ageraldnaveen

    Just one question...

How do we create the profiles? (what program should we use etc.)

you can use the universalremote server itself to create profiles. Click "new" in the server UI. Then you can customize as necessary. If you want to post here, just copy the .gur file present in the folder where the server binary exists.

Set one of the keys to be Alt+tab to be able to cycle through apps
    .

Thats great thought. I had a similar thought again ( great minds think alike?), but since you cant configure to keep the alt key pressed across keypresses, you can only switch between two applications - since Alt+tab will only switch to one app and will get back to the previous app on pressing it again

what about shift+alt+tab? you can press it repeatedly to change apps, the problem you mentioned doesn't exist with it does it?
