I was wondering about something: now when I take a picture with the phone's camera, is the thumbnail of that shot generated by the phone and stored somewhere? I mean if I wanted to make a gallery of some sort with previews of the images taken by the phone, it would be more efficient to load the thumbnails directly without having to load every file in memory and then scale it down... What about the thumbnail preview the phone has? Does it actually load the entire collection of images and then create the thumbnails on the fly? Any ideas?

My guess is it does not store such thumbnail version separately.

It is actually the matter of memory vs CPU (whichever is cheaper to the user). I would guess most of us would prefer to spend CPU rather than memory, as it is only for a short while, whereas memory will be occupied forever and given the limited amount of memory the phones have.
