Default App: Control your MS powerpoint presentations wirelessly!

I have tested this with my A780 mobile and Windows XP SP2 computer (with .net 2.0). I dont know about other mobiles.

    Snip from README

    ========== PPTRemote v 1.0 - by Gerald Naveen A ==================================

what is it: PPTRemote aids you to control your MS Powerpoint presentations thru your
mobile. The remote works thru bluetooth SPP. You need to run the PPTRemote server, on
your computer. The remote application communicates to the PPTRemote server and simulates
keypresses on the computer. So you can just control your presentations wirelessly from a
good distance and without any need for any line-of-sight requirement as in usual remotes

Operations supported: Start PPT, Stop PPT, Goto First, Goto Last, Go Next, Go Previous.

Note: You need MS .Net Framework 2.0 for running the PPTRemote server. If your computer
does not have it installed, please install it from downloads.microsoft.com.

    Installation procedure:
    1. Install gerald_pptremote.mpkg
    2. Copy gerald_pptremotesrv.exe to your windows machine.

    Using PPTRemote:
    1. Enable bluetooth on Mobile and on Computer and pair them.
DO NOT ESTABLISH SPP (SERIAL PORT SERVICE) FROM YOUR BLUETOOTH SOFTWARE
    2. Start gerald_pptremotesrv.exe
    3. Select the COM port for incoming SPP and click start.
    4. If everything is fine and if you've selected the right COM port, you would be given a
notification in your mobile, asking the permission to connect thru SPP. Click OK to accept.
    5. Click on the PPTRemote icon in the phone.
    6. Start MS powerpoint on the computer and open the document you wish to present.
    7. Now you can click on the buttons on the mobile phone, and control your powerpoint
    presentation.

    Enjoy!

You can download .net Framework 2.0 from this URL:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

If the link does not work, google for "download .net framework. 2.0".

Please note that version 2.0 is very important, previous versions of .net framework will not work (I am using new classes in FCL in .net fw 2.0)

I can immediately think of two expected comments on this app. Here are my replies to those foreseen comments

Can you write your server without .net:
Foremost reason for me not to write in native windows is that, I dont have a dev environment for it, and it is pretty much complex to code the same in VC++ (without .net). And .net framework 2.0 has beautiful FCL classes, which simplify very much what I wanted. So you may expect my future apps to use .net too And .net framework's existense on a windows machine is also quite common.

Cant we have "Goto slide" option?
My server actually emulates key presses on the powerpoint application; it does not interact with powerpoint thru COM (component object model). So I can support only those functionalities which have a shortcut associated with it. I have given support for most commonly needed features during a presentation, without having a need to go to the presenting computer.

Hope that clarifies. Any other comments are anyways welcome.

Ok. USB dongle, a DSL connection (for the .NET framework) and a good computer needed for me...

    This is pleasing

    wow, this looks great
dsl isn't needed for .net (I have downloaded hundreds of megabytes via dial-up before, you just need LOTS of patience )
and bluetooth dongles are available for very little nowadays.

    keep up the great work

since this works through standardised shortcuts/keypresses I'm assuming that ahqalik's idea for a wmplayer remote would be quite feasible (but IF you do make an app like that please make it like media enabled keyboards, compatible with a variety of players...)

Once more I have to say this is great
