A list of processes and their purpose
I didn't find any such list here, so here I go. Here's the list of processes running on my A780 right now, along with a short explaination of their purpose.
Please help me complete and correct this list, I'll update the post regularly.
addrbk - address book
am
apmd - advanced power management daemon
bash - the shell, providing command line interface
bdflush
browser
db_daemon - database daemon (duh)
dsm
init - this is process #1, the father of all other processes
keventd - kernel event daemon (handles things like plugging of usb cable, etc.)
khubd - responsible for configuring devices (also used for usb)
ksoftirqd_CPU0 - kernel IRQ stuff you don't want to know about
kswapd - kernel swap daemon
kupdated - flushes the disk cache when more buffers are needed
messaging - ??? the SMS and mail software perhaps?
mielserver - ???
misc1 - ???

mtdblockd - Memory Technology Device Block Daemon, provides direct block access to Flash Memory(TransFlash, Embedded Memory)

ps - the command used to get this process list
soundmanager - self explanatory
swapper - ? probably low-level system stuff
tapisrv - my guess is Telephone API Server
tffs1 -/dev/tffs1 is mounted as /diska
that's all I know
