Holy yikes. That's what I get for turning my back...

I'm busy all day today, but I'll try to play around with this a bit later. Nice work.

BTW, I know for fact T-Mobile firewalls everything but smtp, imap, imaps, pop3, pop3s, http, and https. What I can do is get an asterisk server to listen for IAX connections on the pop3 port. I already do this for ssh. I'll try it later.

    Okay. I couldn't help myself.

I tried it. It worked. Yay! (My own VOIP system, not yours, btw...no special port configs required, and went out via T-Mobile. Rockin!)

The only problem I could see is massive breakup problems. I'll look into latency vs codec here in a bit. I'm thinking GSM or Speex codec is appropriate here. The only question is whether latency is good enough for calls. The other party couldn't hear me at all, so I don't know if that's connectivity or a config problem.

Hmm doesn't appear to release the audio device. Requires a reboot to get the GSM phone functions to become available.

Still need to work on sound backend. I have forced to use /dev/dsp16 as input and output device to make ziaxphone work. Actually /dev/dsp16 support read/write but portaudio report read only device. Maybe we can not set /dev/dsp16 as input and output in same time. Try to set /dev/dsp as output and /dev/dsp16 as input (microphone) but ziaxphone not work because /dev/dsp not support mono output.

    same response as numbski.
placed a call from voip to cell and it went automatically to voicemail.
which might be a good feature.
the voice mail prompt sounded a bit garbled like low signal but not bad.
    and considering i get a 500-900 ping.
    its pretty good... I'm happy...

here's some nice links that might come in handy.
i used them to set up the gizmo - cell bridging bits.
for some reason gizmo doesn't like to talk directly with the phone.
or at least I couldn't find a way to get it to.

So where does this stand? anyone got this working? I have looked everythwere, but can't find and iax or sip client that will work for my a780. I can even get the built in sip cliend in the phone to connect to an asterisk server.. but that's as far as it goes thanks to codec differences (at least that's what it looks like is why calls don't go though) ..

Even a j2me iax client would be great.. but I can't find one...

    Help?

it works ... i've placed calls ... incidentally it was to my phone's voicemail. it has kind of choppy quality due to low bandwidth and high ping. but for two cents a minute it can't be beat. The choppyness isn't really that bad either. You can talk on it.

Default ziaxphone on a a780 is a fun toy :)

I have played with this quite a bit, and it's pretty cool.. I have intermittent results.. but it's cool sometimes if you plug in headphones you can hear it in the headphones.. other times it only playes out of the external speaker (even though you have the handset flipped open) , and ad first I thought the microphone did not work at all but I have found after calling myself alot (lol ) for testing there are times the audio from the microphone does seep through for a seccond or two.. Since I have an unlimited data plan this is nice because I can check asterisk voicemails using data only and it does not use phone minutes.. and then I can even use iax with my home phone to dial into cingulars voicemail phone number to play my voicemail all from the cell phone without using any minutes..... Given oten due to connection you can't play voicemails because it can't hear you press a key, or the sound cuts in and out.. Actually talking to somone over it in it's current state is not really possible, but I sure like using it for voicemail.. It's really more a toy than anything else... but it's sure a step in the right direction.. I will attach a screenshot just for fun

I should also mention It was able to answer a call when I called it from another iax phone..

Kudos on the APP! I look forward to seeing any improvements that can be made, and I will be happy to test anything you can throw out
