    For any one interested,

    http://www.yasikgsm.narod.ru/schemat..._motorola.html

Have not seen the file details, and won't understand them if I do see them

Oh man... that's a treasure. I wish someone will find the A780 schematics as well so I can do a little comparison study.

    Conclusions so far:

1.) Neptune LTE broadband processor chip.. It should have EDGE. Why no EDGE on this phone is beyond my understanding. Can someone find the schematics of any edge capable EZX motorola phone? all motorola phones have Neptune broadband processor. Edge capable ones have the Neptune LTE processor.

1-b.) there are a few pins on Neptune LTE chip that are not connected to anything. the pin names are : FFRXD, FFTXD, BP_STATE, FFCTS, PB6 and BPTXD2.

    2. Intel Processor connects to the Neptune LTE broadband processor by USB. yes. Intel PXA270 is the USB Host, and Neptune LTE is the USB Client.

    3. PXA270 has two usb ports. one is the host port and the other is the function port. The host port is hardwired to the Neptune LTE processor. So, using an external USB wifi adapter is not a possibility.

    4. Graphics are rendered directly by the PXA270 processor.

    5. I can't find out the power limitation of the SDIO port. Wifi through SDIO is possible, if the power limits for SDIO port can be determined.

    6. GPS functionality in almost all GPS / aGPS enabled motorola phones is based on the Motorola MG4100 single chip GPS receiver. In A780 it is located inside the keypad. it connects to the Neptune LTE processor on UART2 (perhaps the not connected pins ?). The chip is not there in Motorola E680.

MG4100 chip is cheap, or you can pull it out of a used / dead aGPS enabled phone.. now who here has good soldering skills and a spare E680 ?

wow, i C some interesting facts here moving it to Dev forum, so that its in a more appropriate place to have looks of developers.

i really hope someone can bring up some good ideas based on these findings, or present a way to implement ideas presented by zbangash.

    EDIT:
    @zbangash
i can C the A780 schematics available on same URL. are they of no use for you? you were talking about some comparison study

    :P

I had downloaded the schematics on April 11, and did not have time to see it all till tonight. I did not remember if other schematics were available on that site. Thanks for the reminder, Akhaliq. I will post an update soon.

I am really .. REALLY confused.

The schematics say that Motorola E680i has Neptune LTE chipset, and the A780 has Neptune LTS chipset on the baseband processor.

According to my understanding, LTE is the upgraded version of LTS chipset to incorporate EDGE.. as per : http://wiki.howardforums.com/motorol..._Modding_Guide
The CPU is a Motorola proprietary part, the Neptune LTE. This is an upgraded version of the Neptune LTS to include EDGE capability. The Neptune LTS is in turn an upgrade to the Neptune LT chip with enhancements for use in cellular technology. The Neptune LTE is a complex core with many different parts synthesized onto one chip. (Triplets phones are actually based on the Neptune LTS)
funny.. the LTE chipset phone does not have edge and the LTS phone has edge? something's wrong with that equation.

    --------------some useless info---------------------------------------------
The pin differences are not a lot on the Neptune Baseband Processor. I will jot the values down:
    Pin #-------- E680i ........................... A780
    E17--------FFRXD (not used) .......... UART1 TxD ---------- note1
    C19-------FFTXD (not used ) .......... UART1RxD ---------- //
    C18-------BP State (not used)..........UART1RTS ---------- //
    D17-------FFCTS (not used) ............UART1CTS ---------- //
    N17-------PB6 (not used) ................URXD2 --------- Note 2
    N13-------BPPTXD2 (not used).........UTXD2 --------- //
    V16-------Not connected.................URTS2 --------- //
    D16-------Not connected ................UCTS2 --------- //
    U11-------Screen lock.....................flip switch
    A14 ------FACT_DET.......................SRDA-LTS.
    G10-------not connected..................STDA_LTS
    G11-------not connected..................SCKA_LTS.

Note 1. A780 UART1 pins connect to TNB18 chip, and are connected to similar named pins on the Intel PXA-270 chipset. In E680i the bulverde UART1 pins are directly connected to the TNB18 chip. In essence, the touchscreen data goes through bulverde, and the keypad data goes from neptune. No major difference here.

Note 2. URXD2, UTXD2 pins from A780 are further connected to GAM_UTXD, GAM_URXD, GAM_URTS and GAM_UCTS pins. GAM pins are on the flip connector.

AAARRGGHHH... I SPENT FOUR HOURS and what did i find? NOTHING! The difference in pins is for the FLIP, and not EDGE. Ofcourse the GPS is in the flip, so A780 users will have to either tap UART1 or UART2 to get GPS data out.

I have a headache, and I'm hungry now.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    Here comes the Edge part:

A780 has two antennas, connected to RF3144 radio unit, which is edge capable. E680i, on the other hand, carries an Eagle 9GI radio unit.

Can someone find out what kind of radio this Eagle 9GI unit is? The only thing I know so far is that Moto V3 has the same Eagle 9GI unit.. but that again is a GPRS phone. I'm going to confirm that.. however I am really frustrated.

Why the heck would they use LTE with some unknown radio unit, and LTS with a confirmed EDGE capable radio unit?

Confirmed. Razr V3 and E680i have the same radio.. the Eagle 9GI.

Can someone tell me if Razr V3 has edge upgrade through seem edit?

    the A780 has an LTE:

    maybe this can help you:
    http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:r...cd=15&ie=UTF-8

i dont think that there is a seem for the V3, but i have found this for V551:
Icon #4 - "Script 'E' with Green and Red Slashes Below" means high-speed EDGE data is available. You will only see this if you have an EDGE-enabled phone (V551) and you're running a very recent firmware revision.

    @zbangash,

this thread may finally settle some of your questions on EDGE in the E680i. Hope we're not all dreaming awake
