<voice type="Prof. Farnswell">Good news everyone!</voice>
Despite my OE repository being upgraded to opie-1.2.1 under my feet, with a slightly different arrangements of build script structures, I got the sucker to build again. My modifications now is able to build meta-opie and meta-opie-all. Of course quite a bit of things are commented out from the meta-builds....
After debugging/compiling for a few hours, here is the final cramfs:

Changes (off the top of my head:
more stable (I feel) qpdf2
gaim which does not save in /root (for those who have no rootfs mod)
Konqueror/E included
Here is the set of scripts I use to build this image. I tried to include short descriptions at the top of each shell-scripts. You will most likely need to modify the paths in almost every file (unless your home direcotory is /home/cyph). EZX specific build overrides are in the ezx-opie directory.

This _should_ _theoretically_ build without problems. All done up on a gentoo system. Hint: ccache and distcc will really help here...
Please read

The archive contains ezx-specific build configuration and a stock copy of bitbake. You'll need to fetch the huge OE repository yourself through monotone.
I'll be away for a month in the Australian wilderness... so I don't think I'll be posting any updates. Meanwhile have fun with this!!
