Default Engineering Field Mode (EFEM) in A780

For people who could be professionaly interessed by this functiunality (such as Nokia's Netmonitor ot ericsson TEMS)

1° Dowload from phone Seem 0032_0001. Check bits 4,5,6&7 offset 44. Upload to phone.

2° In your TFlash you should have this hidden folder /system/Qtdownload/ if you already installed LinLoader (see Yantz Topics). If not create it.

Under Qtdownload create a new folder "fem". Create an icon size 32*32 png for your new application and copy "efem" that you will find by telneting in /usr/SYSqtapp/ap_tcmd/ in this new folder.

3° In your TFlash add to /system/java/PlugcardDB this

[AppLinkRecord100001000]
AllPosition = 202
BigIcon = fem.png
Directory = fem
Exec = efem
Group = 3
Icon = fem-sm.png
InstalledDate = 2005/9/26
JavaId = -1
Mime =
MpkgFile =
Name = EngField
OsVersion =
Position = 1
Rotation =
Shared = 0
Size = 24K
Type = 4
uid = 100001000

It's quite finished. You create your new Icon named EngField.
Tap on it and you will have the next screens I join.
For enabling Efem receiver that allows you to see the active cell and neighbours cells and all attached parameters check in FTS Options Eng Field Mode On.
Then you only have to press the Homme Button at the right side of tour phone and the parameter creen appears. Use the scroll button to defile.

For interressed people I can explain the meaning of each item in an other topic.

Returning to the main screen you can acces to Cell management and GPRS settings that can give you plenty quality informations, allow you to ping and many many other that would only interress professionals.

If Yantz read this Thread, can you send me a nice Icon such as a active scope screen for me to replace my very simple Icon?

Thanks

you can use the codes:

WWW009W
or
PPP113P1

to run efem from the dialpad.

p.s. moderator: please link to the thread in the e680 forum or backlink that thread here so that the discussion continues.

Yes Silvio, but how long does it take to tap PPP113P1 or WWW009W to enable it?
For myself, my best performance is 13 seconds with the phone on the deck in front of me.

When I have to make a GPRS ping , I don't have time to loose and sometimes I'm driving a car......

In the solution I propose, you only have to tap on EngField and access directly to the Cell manage and GPRS: 2s....

Using it professionaly you will understand my meaning.

But you're right if it's only for the fun it's unuse to full your screen with a new Icon.

sergues, you "can" use the codes.
you are not forced to use them.

your solution is the best, anyway. hurray !

p.s. why would you want to make a gprs ping while driving a car...
p.p.s. don't answer, let's keep it secret.

Sorry, Silvio I didn't want to bless your suceptibility......

I never said my solution was the best, I only said that in my job it was easier.

Edge is a new (for Orangecaraibe) 8PSK technology that needs good microwave propagation / high signal level. When it decreases the transmission between cellphone and BTS go back to GPRS (GMSK cs4) falling from 200kbits/s to 40k.

For a network developper, pinging, tracking cells, getting QoS is quite a permanent action since the beginning of Edge.

We do use the Ericsson's TEMS system based on GPS + Cellphone Tems + PC and a car following a predefine way to register and then analyse the quality, but its very "Heavy" to start.

With Nokia's Netmonitor or Motorola's Efem it's easier.

So even if you didn't wanted to know why I had to ping whyle driving or doing something else.

With the old 8700 you had only to dial PPP113P1P and efem was active definitively. With the A780 if you reset your cell or exit the Efem you have to begin again. That's why a shortcut is easier for me.

Regards

cool
btw, you mean by that that e680 works with the new 8psk tech ?
like, your gprs access is really 200kbits/sec using the e680/i ?

No I have an A780 working on Edge and that's why I can have downloads at this speed .

E680i doesnt allow this type of connection, cos it is not EGPRS compatible. It's using only GMSK modulation from cs1 to cs4 depending of your network.
Last information I can give you is that A780 and E680i are GPRS class B only (you can dial whyle your GPRS connection is up but without transmitting datas) and class10 (4 channels Rx down from the BTS, 2 channels Tx up from the cell)

So with an A680i the max rate you can get is 55kbits/s (85,6 theorical) in CS4.

Motorola didn't give us the top class A that permit you data and phone togaether a little bit like ADSL system......

I activated EFEM succesfully, but I don't see some functionality. How do you get first screen from topic start? I guess it should appear somehow after turning on Eng field mode, but it doesn't. Do you have any ideas?
